In your area, wherever that is?

We always go to the City of Raleigh display, which is usually at the State Fairgrounds and we park across the street at Carter Finley. This year, they are doing those downtown on Fayetteville Street. We can walk from our house, so that should be cool. :usa:

Faith, NC had the best running 4th fest in the state for quite a while, I believe the last 2 years they've fallen to 2nd behind Raleigh. The firework display is a pretty decent 20 minute show, but it hasn't changed much in a decade. At the peak of their reign, I seem to remember a figure of the town going from a population of 1000 to 40-50,000 during the 4th.

I am no longer capable of staying up late enough to see fireworks, lol.

If you're looking for fireworks specifically, those "in the know" in Forsyth County know that Lewisville has the biggest, longest display by a wide margin. They spend a good portion of the (very small) town budget on it every year. The town square is always quite packed.
They do have a whole "festival" thing during the afternoon/evening too, but my recollection is that most folks just go for the fireworks.

I heard Lilington has a really good display over the river, hav'nt been to it but Barefoot Landing down @ the coast has a great one!!! i always wanted to take the boat down to that one and anchor up and watch from the water, may take my little girl to Raliegh tho its not too far and sounds pretty good.

Up here, just Tweetsie. It gets packed like 4 hours before the fireworks, and they aren't really that spectacular IMO. Plus, with all the mountains, you cant really see them all that well from anywhere BUT Tweetsie.

I remember, as a kid, going out on my grandpa's boat on the Intercoastal and watching the fireworks... over the water is definitely the best. We went up to a friend's on Lake James one year and watched those, but it was harder to see for the trees.

By far the most memorable was a trip to visit friends in Oregon a few years ago (now that I think about it... 8 years ago  ), where we took rigs up in the mountains and watched a bunch of different fireworks displays down in the valley, from Salem all the way up to Portland.

Not sure if we are going to go to and fireworks with Heath this year. He may not like the noise. If we go to Cherryville they will be shooting off muzzle loaders and I can hear them from my house. Sounds like thunder. Gastonia usually has a good display but then again the noise may be too much for him as we haven't found any tiny ear protectors yet.

Several years back we had a asshole for a neighbor who caused us no end of problems. He decided to shoot all his fireworks in to my property. Stephanie picked them all up, wrapped some of them in a ribbon and threw them on his driveway. The rest she just threw back in his yard a bunch of them got run over with the mower and blown back into his yard.

Best fireworks I've ever seen are in my hometown of Ouray Colorado, which for obvious reasons will not be doing them this year. They are launched from 1000 feet above town which sits in a small valley. The noise is awesome and you can literally hear the noise roll down the valley. Super neat. They always do a great 4th celebration with a parade that goes down to the end of town and then back up and then water fights in the main intersection of town. Which looks something like this.
