Where are the employees?

We are struggling here in the public schools. I cannot find a bus driver for anything. Our school currently needs three.
We are struggling finding certified teachers as well. We have quite a few opening in which no one has applied for.

Not much better at other schools.

I'm sure we can debate the pro's and con's of public education but this thread isn't the place. We just don't offer an attractive employment opportunity.
We get automated texts from the school almost daily that if your child rides bus .......... they may be late today due to combining routes.

I've been wondering for a good decade why da fuq anybody would become a teacher in NC... for various reasons. The current situation has just ramped that up x5.

Up here we have the same issue but it's just not quite as bad.

Teacher or bus driver, or pretty much anything having to do with kids - HARD PASS for me. No matter the pay incentive. I don't even like spending that much time with my own kids, let alone someone else's. My kids had a 3 hour delay for school this morning and they about killed each other.

My wife teaches elementary school in Washington County, Tennessee and they are having a school bus driver and teacher hiring problems for a while. I don't understand how she teaches and doesn't loose her mind. Half the kids don't want to learn and just as many parents don't care if there kids learn anything, just as long as they are not at home bothering the parents. But, there are some great kids too who want to learn and some parents that care more about their children's future than they do about themselves.

As far as the school bus driver shortage, I am trying to talk my wife into driving a bus. I see it as a win/win, she gets more money and saves gas driving to school. She says I am crazy for even thinking it.

I tried convincing my wife the same. Currently here they get a $3k sign on bonus and $25/hr. I would do it if my schedule allowed!

3. Only Fans - Work remote, no meetings, no expectations, just you, a camera, KY, and the Harris Teeter produce aisle.
This plus bitcoin mining (which I only know about because of our younger PEs) and the trend of trading bitcoin, nft's, or whatever. Some of our younger PEs have a computer or two running at home 24/7 just making money "mining".

From what I have seen in annual deaths the cause has been classified differently but the overall numbers have not changed drastically. Seems that drug overdoses have had a larger percentage since the start of 2020 as well. Less deaths classified as heart attack, Flu / Pneumonia doesn’t mean that those factors aren’t at play anymore.

There were 500k more US deaths in 2020 than in 2019. Regardless of how they died, dead is dead, and 500k more in one year is a significant number.

We're having equally difficult times finding recruits here at the FD. In our most recent hiring process, we had 143 applicants. Total. That's before the HR application screening for automatic disqualifiers. When I was hired, 400 applicants took the written exam. Part of our drop in applicants can be directly tied to our EMS system requiring a Covid vaccine. The other part is our abysmal pay rate, which city council is supposed to be addressing since we're hemorrhaging employees that we literally just spent 6 months training. Maybe one day it will improve, but I feel the workforce has been negatively impacted for the next few years.

Youre not wrong. I would love to go full time. But, im holding out on the shot (not against it, just not willing to play guinea pig) and honestly couldnt afford the pay cut. I forget what department youre on, but at one point I had applied to every dept from raleigh to asheville. Got wait listed at a few, and couldnt afford a couple.

I'm considering a job change honestly. Been here for 7 years of up and down. Currently down. Been in the field, and found my place. But sales are down and we don't have any jobs even booked that would need me. Not really interested in sitting in the office for 6 months to a year, just waiting for work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that they didn't just fire me, but im going crazy just riding a desk. I like the company for the most part, which makes it a harder decision.

Back in 2011ish I looked into "Mining" bitcoin, wrote it off as fad...I was a little wrong.

But yes the digital marketplace is real and the barrier to entry is low, so why not "do whatever you want when you want to" v. 9-5 doing what someone is telling you to do.

Wife and I tried to go to Red Robin the other night around 7pm. Parking lot was half empty. Hostess said it was a 20min wait, not a soul in the restaurant. 4-5 employees that we could see standing around. Asked if we could sit at the bar, was told the bar was closed.

We left and went to Chick Fila(which was packed with people and employees) and were in and out in 5 mins.

1. "The Great Wealth Transfer" has started, kicked off by CoCo, 900k extra deaths in the last 2 years, Baby Boomer parents pass without touching their savings or retirement, "Kids" (they are in their 4ds) now have a shit ton of money can make a career change or just hang out or grandbaby Johnny now has money to go to college debt-free or whatever. Basically, large amounts of wealth are getting passed to the younger generation untouched, people are going into YOLO mode and stopping frying chicken at BoJos.
I doubt the people who are getting wealth from inheritance are the same people working at bojangles.

I’m the guy that sends them here. I went back and got my CDL. I drive 2 routes most afternoons. Some days I drive 4. We’ll get them home. It might be late but we’ll get them. Unfortunately, this takes away a lot of time to do my actual job.

I wound up being a long term substitute teacher in an Alexandria, VA middle school for a couple of months before I got the job I have now....no way I'd want to be stuck on a bus with those rowdy kids in DC traffic. That is pretty good hazard pay though!

Wealth is a subjective term, but I think it is completely reasonable to think a manager at a Bojangles could have parents that both passed in the last two years at the start of their retirement, and that person now has a good amount of money they can do what they want with, "peace out money" if you will.

We went to (presumably) that same Red Robin about 2-3 weeks ago. 7 at night, maybe one table sitting. Hostess was less than pleasant. Dining area closed except the couple tables in the bar. Wait was going to be 20 minutes. After 30 minutes, we left because there was no one in sight and no progress. Went to Chickfila. Sat in the parking lot, ate in the van, and enjoyed it.

Honestly that Red Robin wasn't much better with the pleasantries pre-Covid. It will be closed in 6 months or less if they don't get a decent manager.

@Tom@Hilltop_Machine one at Northlake.

@jeepinmatt guessed right. Although to be honest, the entirety of Northlake is trash now. 5 years or so ago, it was alright to go to. Now you have to dodge gang shootings in the mall and parking lots in hopes of finding a store open.

Only reason I go over there is the Lowes but the one in Belmont is about the same distance away.

If you can stay across the street where REI and Target are, it's not so bad. But the mall part is craptastic. I was there for REI and Northern Tool. For some reason I don't understand, my wife wanted to try Red Robin one more last time.

I wish the entire Red Throbin chain would go under. I have never had a good experience in any that have taken my money.
