Where can I find a _________? (Tool Edition)

I’m guessing you learned this one first hand.
Oh Yeah,if I throw away an old caliper Ill save the bolt.I have a pile of em.....that I'll probably never use.

BUT!!!! as soon as you throw the pile away, you will need one the next day....

Vise grips also work in a pinch.

......apparently not w a "new" rebuilt caliper w some shitty/shiny chinese bleeders. The rebuilt calipers were about as good as new, but the bleeders were stuck and junk that I could not budge even while rounding them off w several types of Vise grips trying to bleed the new brakes. I did learn a lesson.....make sure the bleeders will open/close BEFORE I mount them and the pads etc. I'm pretty sure the threads were wrong but the manufacturer just screwed them in anyway w an air wrench and they became one w the cast iron caliper.

Socket to loosen for another vote. That’s what brake clean is for right?

Also, I almost always switch to speed bleeders if I know it’s a vehicle I want/need to bleed often. Easiest one man show for bleeding brakes.

LOL

What started this whole she-bang...

Leaking master cylinder. Replaced master cylinder. Re-bleed system. Bleeder doesnt strip but snaps off inside the caliper. Drill and tap boogers up threads in old unknown quality caliper. Time for a new caliper. Of course it was the DF...IE the last one to bleed. Now we get to re-bleed the system. Then noticed rear line at master is weeping. Any tighten at all is just twisting line. Back it out to make sure free between line and fitting and line snaps. New brake line from master to distribution block....

I have found to make sure they are "Vise Grip" brand or another quality locking pliers. The cheap ones wont bite into shit and just end up rounding everything.

Shitty thing about brake fluid is, it's so corrosive. Not a problem inside the line b/c of lack of oxygen access, but once it drips all over something, it's downhill quickly.
I think about this every time I do brake work and get it all over everything.

I believe that is partly why Harley uses silicone DOT5. Won't eat paint. Plus it needs to be changed more frequently since water doesn't mix with it.
