I just bought a Dodge Durango, my first SUV/Truck, everything else I've had has been a car. I'd like to take it on some trails, or some light off-roading but I don't want to trespass or anything. Are there any legal trail or off roading areas I can go to?

Sam

hmm legal wise, Uwharrie is probably the closet legal wheeling trail I can think of off the top of my head. There is actually one down the street from me thats legal because the owner knows us from riding atvs. But you are a tad bit far from me . But the main vibe of this board is not mudwheeling, its rock crawling. (Which is awsome too). Many of the people on this board have an extreme amount of knowledge about these kinda things, not just trail riding but in general. Good people to have on your side also. So I defiently have strayed from the original question but its good to meet ya

URE is going to be the only place. It is about 45min, from you, pm me if you need directions

You can head north towards the Blowing Rock and Boone area, too (about 1.5 hours from Charlotte). There are few places around to get you feet wet.

why is it illegal...a lot of people ride out there.. the land belongs to (edited to not give location) and as long as nobody does anything stupid they don't care if youo ride out there
Alot of people do alot of things. Sheer numbers do no tmake something legal. all it is going to take is for someone to get hurt, or Mommie's new Jeep to get rolled by her little angel and all hell will break loose. Wheeling in an illegal area gives all wheelers a bad name and it is the reason that most of us have to drive so far to wheel in the first place. Now, if you want to volounteer to get written permission from the land owners, we will be very grateful. Until then, don't go there. and If you do, for God's sake, don't mention this site, unless it is to say, "They tried to talk me out of it".

We've all made similar mistakes. The board has had problems with the kids coming in and reporting how they've subverted, destroyed, or ignored landowners (private homeowners even) attempts to get rid of tresspassers. This gets all our backs up.

Check out http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372.

Plus, someone on the old board was building a rock garden down your way, and maybe they'll see this and PM you.

Rock Garden is open save a few hours "volenteering" from a few would-be users...

Any takers??? If i get enough real interest in pm's or here i will set a date in UPCOMING..

Def. interested. I would not mind chunking around some rocks or whatever. Let me know. :) Thanks for your generosity. I have a small one in my backyard but my mother would kill me if I tore up the whole yard having fun. You are doing a very nice thing.-Josh

How big will the garden be? Will fullsizes be able to play? If so I'll come and help, just name the time and place.

Uwharrie would be your best place to go, but there is a place in yadkinville called soggy bottoms. it is a fairly nice place to go get muddy.

Tell us more, I've never heard of this place. Is it private land, pay to play? or a National Forest/Park? How big is it? What kind of wheelin'? Rocks and trails or just mud?

Soggy Bottoms is off of 601 going towards yadkinville from mocksville, the road is harry rd, its a dirt road, its privately owned land, there is a $20 membership fee for liabilty purposes, and after that its $5, its open only on sundays at 2.00pm-?, i have been there a few times, they have a awsome mudhole that only a few trucks have gotten past and a fairly nice hill and more mudholes to get muddy, 4x4's and ATV's are welcome. Give it a shot

Thank you! This is the info I needed. Do I need to contact the owner to establish membership before I go, and can that be done when I arrive on a Sunday?

Stewart

when u get there on sunday, you will see a woman standing there before you go in, thats where you will do all your membership fees and pay after that, just follow the 4x4's.
