Where Else to Wheel in SC?

I have read the "Where to Wheel" thread in the Events section. I have scoured the internet. I have visited the SFWDA site. With all the property in SC (and plenty of hilly stuff Upstate) there is no where else but Gluches? Gulches is small and hit or miss depending on the weather, but that is a good sized state to have nothing else for trucks and Jeeps.

Are there any private parks? Folks with private land that is willing to open up for a well-mannered, responsible group of folks (ie. this is a group of adults)? State land with interesting stuff that is legal to enter without a lot of hassle?

I am just floored that there is a lot of stuff for dirt bikes and ATVs but essentially nothing for larger vehicles. If you know someone or have private land for that you are willing to open up for a day, let me know.

There was a great spot down in Liberty/Easley but last I checked it got shut down because dumbasses left the property, drove over a 12' chain link fence and trespassed onto public (airport) property.

There is a spot up in Chester Ive heard decent stuff about, but they only communicate on Facebook and I dont have FB...

I'm a South Carolina resident and I can tell you that there really isn't shat for wheeling in this triangle shaped state but Gulches. Nada. There's been a few places to open and usually don't stay open for more than a few weeks.

Have you checked offroadsc.com?

You will probably have better luck finding wheeling spots by hooking up with local clubs.

Yeah, be careful talking to some of the "local" clubs. They're pretty much proud of the fact that they trespass on private properties... even posting pictures of it on their FB page.

Heres a link to the place in Chester that was mentioned earlier. They are supposed to have some OHV trails for larger vehicles, but mostly looks like atv, utv, dirtbikes, and horses....

CAW only has trails for ATVs and such. No full size. About 6 years ago, I and a few local guts were hired on as trail scouts to help the owner plan for trail cutting to get a section of the park opened for jeeps but it fell through.

And offroadsc is sadly a waste of time. Which is why I'm here...

CAW is NOT who I was referencing.

Yes CAW has no Full Size Access.
I'm not sure when you were roped into that but in '09 @rockcity and I spent a bunch of time with Dan (who was then the parks ops manager) to develop the property across the highway for full size vehicles. The first ECORS race of the first full season was to be on this property. Approximately 400 billable hours were logged on heavy equipment at my expense, usage contracts were drawn and agreed to and signed off on by lawyers. Joint marketing contracts were entered into and paid by ECORS and 6 weeks before the date and 2 days before radio ads were supposed to begin the owner of that park said "sorry Im not interested in a bunch of rednecks in Jeeps tearing my property up, I changed my mind y'all can sue me or whatever but it aint happening boys."

I'll never spend a penny at CAW.

Besides they are wll south of Chester, closer to Kershaw county.
The place Im talking about is in Chester on the Hwy 9 side closer to york county than lancaster.

I did some searching based on this, it is "The Compound" in Chester. I requested to join the FB group. Some internet sites list it as closed.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, the compound is closed. There was an open ride there this year but it never went farther than that. As a participating club member we showed the owner that there was some interest in a park but I think the local mydboys tearing up the parking lot blew any chance of it happening. However I felt as though he thought it was going to be a mud park but quickly figured out how much maintenance is involved. And no I don't really know the full full story on it but that was my interpretation.

It must have been right before that then. 08 or so. I and a wheeling friend of mine, Joe (president of mid carolina jeepers at tge time) and the owner of west wateree offroad shop, David went there to scout trails on the said property across the road. We took two vehicles and ran the trails with the owner looking for decent obstacles. Right as you passed the creek crossing and approached the big field was the only place we saw any decent climbs and outcroppings IIRC. It had potential though.

My bad.... Calm down have a beer... LOL I know I had heard some people talking about them having OHV trails but their site says/shows nothing. That sucks about the time and effort put in only to be shut down by the owner, especially since we all know dumb asses on atvs and utvs do way more damage than rednecks in jeeps....

other than that I havent heard much about any other open trails

What's wrong with CAW? I take my dirtbike there and have a great time. Everyone I've met is very nice and it's one of the best maintained parks I've ever ridden atvs at.
