I am looking to buy a set of Diff covers for my 8.8, and my D30 soon, and what you guys are running, and what ya'll think of certain brands/styles etc.

I am think of going with Blue torch ones, and adding some skids running vertically on the bottom half of the cover. Im tired of dragging mine on crap, and having to weld them up and try to reinforce them. I'm also tired of beating the 8.8 back straight, from the bottom trying to peel up all the time. But Ive also been looking at the Crane, and Solid ones.

just got dont checking around......i think im going to go with ruffstuff, they have a discount for board members, and.... that discount offsets the price of getting the bolt holes countersunk.....def. leaning towards them.

literally just got off the phone with Dan at Ruffstuff, and taked to him for about 30 mins about all types of stuff. Hes a great guy, and both covers are on the way. $220 shipped with countersunked holes. I would reccomend him to anyone.

I know you already bought your covers, but I just found this on ebay. The guy is selling Rockcrusher 8.8 covers for $55. Seems like a pretty good deal.
Item number: 310031212589

I had Andy at Carolina Rock Shop build my 8.8 cover several years ago after my wife hit a rock going backwards and put a hole thru it. He did a great job. I don't remember the $$, but I was pleased with it.

thanks for the link.........ive found like 3 used sets for half what i spent, but theyre not exactly what i wanted.......and Dan is a great guy, he had exactly what i wanted... and they're new....i'll be getting more stuff from him soon.

here is a picture of the 8.8 cover during install,

got the new covers on this weekend.....i was really impressed, fit well, everything worked out great.....things things are massive. Only problems with them.....
1) the 9/16 allen wrench/allen socket needed for fill plugs is hard to find by itself, and is expensive when bought in a 4 peice kit from sears.

2) the front d30 fill hole is annoying, you have to take the allen head socket apart, and use an open ended wrench on the 9/16 shank in order to tighten the plug. this is all due to the placement of the fill hole in reference to the tie rod.

In hindsight, i should have just bought a 9/16" width headed bolt about an inch long, and welded a 9/16" head width nut to the bolt to use for the fill/drain plugs. a whole lot cheaper and easier.

two things, those RockCrusher diffs on ebay are now $75! with 15 to ship so thats $90 total. not as great of a deal as thought. Oh, and these are aluminum so hit it hard enough and it's shattered!

If you want a super strong diff that is the most bang for your buck go with Great Lake Offroad --> http://www.greatlakeoffroad.com/diff.html they make amazing covers that withstand anything! I mean it check out the site, in the last 5 years nobody has been able to break one of these, oh and did I mention they are only $110 shipped!

Did you have any issues with the cover hitting your gas tank?
