Something like plywood, but Oak or another hardwood. Maybe 3/8" thick, Lowes doesn't have anything. The closer to Lincolnton the better. I need about 12-15 sq feet.

My wife wants to build some sort of tiered cake tower deal, or two? Man I have no clue, just something she keeps talking about, and has tasked me with getting it (then cutting it, sanding it, drilling it if necessary) for her.

Do you mean she will use it to make/support a tall stack of cakes w layers on piers or columns of some sort ? Maybe white, poly cuttingboard would be better and reusable too if you can find big enough ones for her cake creations. It can be cut and shaped/drilled just like wood and w the same tools and it's food friendly, easy to clean cake/frosting off of.

Gotwood?

Maple is about the only wood for food contact, like a butcher block b/c it is not porus (sp) like oak and other woods. Carolina Mill Works in hickory has cabnet grade ply wood.

There is also klingspor in hickory, over by cvcc.
