My parents are looking at buying a new laptop, and Office 2010 is $100 to add on to it. Is there anywhere to get legit Office 2007 or 2003 for cheap and put on there? They don't need the latest and greatest.

If you've got a valid business email, you should be able to buy the latest version pretty cheap. .edu emails typically work, too. You can often pick up a business or education copy for around $30. It's the full version, and you only need the email for registration purposes.

So where can I get these $30 copies? Everything I've seen is $100 or more.

Sorry. I spoke without checking. I know sometimes they run specials. I figured with classes starting up, they'd have some cheap packages out there. I saw a business version a couple of weeks ago for cheap, but can't find it now. Can they settle for OpenOffice? It takes a little more getting used to, but works very well once you've figured it out. And it's free.

OpenOffice isn't really worth the headache, its much better to spend the 100 on the Office Suite. I swore by OpenOffice while I was in college for like....2 months. Then I just gave up.

I installed OpenOffice on their old laptop, and they didn't complain about it too much, but they never liked Thunderbird, and email is one of their primary uses.
