Where to dispose of bad gas?

Any idea where I could take it to get rid of it
Yes, your local garbage drop off station pour it in with the waste oil.
pouring it somewhere when no one is looking
Please don't do that there is always somebody looking.
or in a barrel and lighting it?
Would you really do that??:shaking: If you do please film & have your next of kin up load it to youtube.

Mix about half gallon to a tank and burn it in your car/truck.

Sell it as 67 Grade :)

Does bad gas turn into turpentine?

Wasn't going to pour it out.
Hence the asking.
Would I burn it?
Sure. Little bit at a time in a 55g drum.
burn some of the brush I need to off at the same time.
But that would be slow, and I don't like this crap sitting around. :D
I might forget and pour it into my mower or something.
(I do have a neighbor I don't like, thought about giving them some "free" gas) but that's rude.
:D

No, don't do that, because then the garage will have to pay a hazardious waste fee to have their oil disposed of.

Waste oil is one grade of HAZMAT waste, oil with fuel is quite another ( now considered combutsable or explosive)

Shop I used to work at was caught doing it, cost them $2000 to have their waste oil tank drained, when it usually is taken away for free.

They now have seperate barrels just for the waste oil mixed with gas /fuel and a seperate for antifreeze nd oil mixed.

x2 on using it used to carry home mixed gas and diesel and burn it in my mowers. sales people where all the time putting a few gallons of gas in the empty duramax tanks.

My drop off here in Durham on Club Blvd. is more than happy to take any liquid. I just took in about 20 gallons of gas with some other stuff. Dude took it with no questions. You have to have labels on anything you drop off or they won't take it though. He poured it into a vessel and gave me my cans back.

MY first question is,,,,,,what makes it bad? If it just old, and not contaminated, I would pour a gallon or so in every fill up, on a carbed engine.
If it is contaminated with water, I would pour into a glass jug(clear) and siphon off the good part and use it, in a carbed engine.
If it is contaminated and you have a cheapy electric fuel pump, I would pump it through a filter, and use it.
Last thing I would do is throw it away, but, that's me.

Something about running tainted gas in a compression motor doesn't settle right with me. My situation was it had rust color and fine grit from the gas tanks it came out of and was 8-10 years old or more. I believe a waste of 20 gallons at $80 is cheap compared to risking having to pull a motor to rebore and re-ring due to scorns on the cylinder walls from any kind of debree, a carb rebuild, and new fuel pump and filter along with dropping my gas tank to clean it out and blow out all the gas lines. My time alone would not be worth $80, much less the down time and all the parts and machining labor.

My carbed 302 in my DD has been rebuilt and requires 93 octane without pinging all to hell as it is.

Of course the scenerio I mentioned is worst case scenerio and disposing of it was precautionary measures. Might would have been fine to run but I don't see the need to gamble $80 compared to 15 to 20 times that amount. But that's just me.

I'll be sure to post next time I have some bad gas in case someone else wanted to run it in their stuff...

:flipoff2:

I use it to light my grill instead of lighter fluid. Its much cheaper. Use about 1/4 cup and let it sit for a bit (bout 30 seconds) then light it. Lights very similar to lighter fluid once it soaks in to the charcoal. I've been doing this for 15 years and never a problem...

Or, I mix a little in with water and spray weeds with it.

Or, mix it with good gas and use in lawnmower, ATV, etc. etc.

well, it's bad cause it's from a boat, has oil mixed in X with it.
(the mix is prolly right)
BUt the boat got partially sunk, and then has been sitting for over a year.
When we siphoned the gas out of the tank to lift the tank to get to the bilge pump, there is sand and other crap in the bottom of the tank. So we need to clean the tank, then am going to run the gas through a coffee filter, and run about 2-3g per tank.
15 g tank so that should be fine.
Only have about 7-8 gal of the stuff, so shouldn't take to long once the boat's electrical is all good.

Personally I'd just take it to the lcoal HazMat place and be done with it. In Forsyth Co., we have a special place that take all hazardous materials, free of charge. I'm sure Raleigh has a similar deal.
8 gal @ $4 ea only $32 you're saving by using it, and think of all the work/effort you go through to do so. Unless you're a really poor fellow and unemployed, $32 isn't woth your time and effort, let alone the general risk involved. I'd pitch it, but do so appropriately.

EDIT - I bet these are the places...

Argh. I called those buggers and they said they don't take "gasoline" Just oil, etc etc.
I might just call it oil with other stuff. :D

Set it outside in an open pan in the sun. It will evaporate in a few days. Make sure it won't get knocked over creating a spill or get rained in.

Did you ask them who did? You can usually get a quick response by asking them "What's your names so you'll know who to tell about when EPA shows up after you dump it down the storm drain".

Is this going to be on my mind all day til I break away and find your Hazmat in Raleigh? EVERYBODY has a hazerdous drop off that will take gas. Just got to find it.

OK, well just called them again, and they said, they would accept it this Saturday at the N Raleigh site off of Durant.
And when I asked them, they apologized and said the guy I talked to earlier must have thought I meant that day. Like it says on the website, only certain days they take this crap.
bleh. So much for this thread. :D
(Other than remembering miscommunication can suck.)
