Great threads!

I'm looking to build some bumpers for my TJ, pretty new to fabricating but have to start somewhere ...which leads me to my question

Where do you guys source your raw materials locally (tubing, plate ...) - I'm in Greensboro.

From what I've been hearing you have to buy in bulk (somewhat) to get decent prices.

Any help would be appreciated!

im not really worried about the bulk situation, but I would like to know of a few supply places in around the greensboro area too. been looking for about 8 sticks of 1.5"x.120 DOM for a roll cage in my samurai so if you know one/few places let me/us know. thanks

For larger orders like 8 sticks of tube, call ryerson. http://www.ryerson.com/en/Our-Company/Locations

If i recall their minimum order is lower than it used to be(used to be $500 now its lower maybe $250). Also no matter what they say on the phone, if you show up to pay in cash they wont take it. they do take visa, doubtful on checks.

Alro is cheaper on tubing in my experience (especially when ordering 10+ sticks), often times Ryerson is cheaper on plate steel though. They WILL take cash (at least they did from me one time).

Expect to pay ~$40/stick on HREW 1.75" .120 right now if you order a decent amount, and about $60-$80 on DOM. Those prices were a few weeks ago based on about 10 sticks each.

John, Piedmont Plastics might be a place to start, they are off Holden Road in Greensboro.

They wouldnt take cash for my order (~$2500). They offered to split half on card half cash though.

Never heard of Alro, i'll have to remember that next time im looking for tube.

2nd for Piedmont Plastics - THat's where my employer buys their stock.

I know that some distributors actually won't 'stock' tubing unless it's some godawful number of sticks in the order

Thanks for all of the great replies! I'll definately call around And see what I can come up with.

Post up what you need, & see what the members have, laying around!
Good call. Looking for some kind of square stock foe a bumper blank, maybe 3/16 thick. Planning on something simple with a winch plate and a stinger for the front and a swing out tire carrier out back
