Where to get rid of a parts car

I have an old Mercedes parts car. I have sold the primary so want to get rid of the donor as scrap. It's 95% there, no title. Any suggestions on scrap yards that would buy a one off from an individual like this and what they might be paying? I am in Efland, NC (between Mebane and Hillsborough). I can haul myself as needed.

Not having a title to the vehicle isn't a big deal at all to a recycler. Heck, my step-daughter's ex boyfriend took her Explorer and had it scrapped without her knowledge or consent. She was asleep on the couch at the time. By the time she found out about it, it was already gone. That I understand, we didn't even have any recourse in the matter.

yeah 10yrs old is the cutoff for having a title, scrap is down a little now but you will pbly have to remove the fuel tank or at least cut a hole in the tank and drag it to the best paying/closest (or a combination of the two) scrap yard i would just call and see what the particular yard you haul to requires to prep the vehicle, and i would prbly saw the cat off it and sell it seperate it will bring more, hope this helps

What year is the car?

It does help, just the kind of info I was looking to get. It's a 1990 or 91 so I make the 10 yr plus easily. I called a few places just now and your advice is spot on, thanks! I wasn't initially thinking these places would deal with a one off like mine and only dealt with bigger wrecker services and the like but they seem to be happy to take it in. Cool enough, I have a plan and the wife will be happy to not have it on the property.

Greg at European Accents might take it off your hands.

Are you trying to maximize your dollar, or minimize your effort?
PM or call WarBeast on here, he'll probably take it from you...

I suspect he's way too far down the road for this. I can haul it, just had never gotten rid of one of these so wasn't sure how easy it would be. Seems like no problem after a couple calls. Prices seem to be somewhere between $9 and $10 per 100 lbs so for just one car not worth me running all over the piedmont to get another 15 or 20 bucks expecially with fuel prices being where they are. I found a place within 15 miles or so. All set.

Make sure when you call, you get the yards requirements for having a car scrapped. The closest yard to me requires a title no matter the age, cant have tires, gas tank, or battery in it, etc. Then there is a yard that doesn't need a title or anything removed. You can literally drive across the scales and walk away with your cash.

Is this the one in Clayton? I picked up a scrap van down there once right next to the place and they were jerks. I then took it to TT&E. The place in Clayton is the only place I know that does what you said.

Oh yea, the latest state law for recyclers: You got to smile for a camara shot. :burnout:

Defiantly ask what needs to be done to it. They all have a little different rules. The one I use most wants at least an 8" hole in tank, no battery, and if no tittle(didn't matter who's name it was in) or a bill of sale.
Roll windows down to minimize the glass when they grab it, or put tape on them helps too, if you are worried about the glass. All depends on how they unload it.
don't do like some and fill the engines and tranny with water, or soak the seats, many have done this and are not allowed back

Just called today. Retail customers, scrap cars are getting $9.25 per 100lbs for scrap cars at Raleigh Metal Recycling. Doubt they come and pick it up.

$.70/pound for aluminum wheels
$.21/pound for batteries

Yes it's in Clayton. I ended up taking it to Raleigh Metal, they were paying more than TT&E at the time.

I know for a fact that LKQ will drain the gas for you. Friend of mine used to work there and all the employees divvy up the gas each week.
