Our 5 year anniversary is this weekend. We will have one night without our 2.5 year old to go somewhere. We'd like to go to the mountains. Where should we stay? What should we do? (besides the obvious:bounce:)

Do you want to hike, and/or camp? Or just enjoy peace and quiet?
The obvious thing you should do is....
eat breakfast. An important way to start the day!

Or skip the mountains and head down to Charleston, SC for a night. Very cool place with lots to do and see. Carriage ride with the wifey highly recommended.

2ND THAT CHARLESTON THING,GET A ROOM ON MEETING ST AND YOU WONT EVEN HAVE TO DRIVE,LOTS OF HISTORY DOWN THERE

Bluffs Lodge out on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its quiet, scenic and there is lots to do close by. Its a short walk down to the Coffee shop on the BRP for a great breakfast, lunch or dinner. The lodge and coffee shop are located inside Doughton Park on the BRP. Its a great place to stay.

My wife and I love staying there.

With just a night, I wouldn't want to spend my time in the car. Having 3 kids all under 9 y/o... I'd grab dinner and movie and bed. And having an 8 month old, I'd sleep late and save energy for morning sex. NO better way to start the day :D

Then plop over to see Linville Falls. Take the trail down to the Plunge Basin - or the Scenic Overlook. Nearby, there is Table Rock Mtn, HawksBill Mtn, Babel Tower has an impressive view. Then there is Grandfather Mtn.

Both Grove Park Inn and Biltmore have had 2 night minimium stays on the weekends.
