Ok, I'm as new as new can be when it comes to wheelin'. I have a '00 TJ with 31' BFG AT's. Everything else is stock. I live in Sanford and want to start having some fun. Where is somewhere I can go (near home preferable) just to get my feet wet? I've NEVER been off-roading before. I've had my Jeep for about a year now and it's time i went out to play.

Anywhere I can go that's easy on newbies like me? Anybody want to babysit a newb and show me how things are done?

Thanks in advance....
Derrick

YES ! Just stay off of Daniel, Rocky mountain Loop and Dutch John. All the rest you should be fine. ENJOY !

Where do I meet up with you and what time on Sat? I'm not positive if I'll be able to make it yet, but if so what all do I need to make sure I bring? Just go by the checklist on the link you sent me?

That would be group camp .

Print off the trail map available on the CNC4x4 site (here) It shows grope camp in the upper left hand corner...there are signs to it also.

Grope camp? Not sure I would want to camp there unless it was filled with beautiful women. Then the wife wouldn't let me. :huggy:

Wow!! A grope camp!! Damn, I knew I would get into this off-roading stuff :D
It's why I wheel!!! I even upgraded from the whole tent thing...went CONDO! (less noise passes through the walls...) :D

So what all would I need to make sure I bring with me? I've got a spare and the wonderful factory POS jack that came with the Jeep. I've got the factory front tow hooks.

Do I need to get some tow straps and things like that? Bring tools?

Or do i just refer to this list: http://www.cnc4x4.org/mini_equipment.asp

Sorry for the newbie questions. I appreciate everybody's input.

You're about out of newb credits at this time.
Please send $$$ to Rob for more creditsbefore you post again.
Thank You

Tow straps are good...get only the kind that have a loop at the end not the kind with a metal hook. For starters, get a 2"x20'. Places like Northern, Tractor Supply and even Lowes have cheepies...We are not gonna be doing much in the way of hard stuff on Saturday, so mosly you will need the strap to get your skid plate off of a rock...nothing major. If you can afford it, step up and get a 3x30 good one, Big Daddy makes some pretty ones, as does Pro-Comp (available from 4wd.com or quadratec.com).

I strongly reccomend a CB. one of the hand held kind is plenty for URE. I've got a Cobra and a Radio Shack...Like them both, the Cobra is a little better in send receive power/ability but the rechargeable battery with the Radio Shack version is a better set up.

It would be helpful if you had a rear tow point. Either hooks or a hitch receiver (no insert neccessary, but the cross pin is). The guy behind you may need a tug.

A fire extinguisher is a good idea, whether or not you are on the trails...

Well, I'm going to have to pass on the April 30 run. When I got home last night I realized that my son has a baseball tournament on that Saturday. Since I'm the coach, I guess I should probably be there ;)

Oh well, this will give me a little more time to get prepared for whenever the next run will be.

Thanks for everybody's input and advice. Hopefully I can join you all next time!!
