Where to stay at Gulches

Going to Gultches this summer for the first time. Two rigs on a gooseneck and generally tent camp. The nice lady on the phone at Gultches said the primitive sites along the river aren't accessible by tow rigs with trailers (sounds like a challenge to me). But she did say I could tent camp on my trailer for free in the parking lot.

Tent camping in a parking lot doesn't sound amazing. Where do y'all stay when wheeling Gultches. Is the parking lot generally safe safe to leave the tow rig with tools and such inside? Anything else I should know?

Parking lot has 4 "rv" spots with power and water. She's not exaggerating about not being able to access river spots with a trailer.

There's also a house/cabin nearby that's somehow affiliated.

I have friends that RV camp in the parking lot pretty often.

Parking lot camping would not be an issue. They’ve put a lot of money into grading and adding gravel. It’s very nice. I wouldn’t hesitate myself to stay in the parking lot.

There is a cabin very close by that’s very reasonable. The info is on their website.
@Chris_Keziah has stayed there before.

You absolutely cannot get a trailer to the river. And I wouldn’t stay there if you could. I have left my tow rig with all my tools and spare parts in the parking lot with no issues.

Thanks all. NC4x4 family for the win again!

Every time we've been we parked the RV in the parking lot and "primitive" camped out of it. Never any issues. Let me know when you go.

Trying to plan the trips for the summer. Never been to Gultches so figured give it a run, back to WV for a long weekend, and one of my engineers has a house in PA and rides Rock Run OHV up there. Never been there either. But when I get the dates I'll let y'all know for sure.

Gulches in July was miserable. Man it gets hot down there.

I'm hour half away. Give us some lead time and maybe I can meet you there too. There is a hotel with a Fatz Cafe next door right off I26. I think it's the Clinton exit. Never stayed there but have thought about it.

We used to do the competitions that were once a month from like May-August. It got brutal after lunch. If you don't have to plan too far ahead watch the weather and you can catch a moderate weekend.

Don't shave your balls if you wheel there in July. The nutsack hair makes it easier to peel your junk apart when you have to pee.

This sounds like sage advice from a full time mountain biker. Maybe I'll plan a Gultches trip for the fall...

@Clubbs FYi it's Gulches, not Gultches.

Since Gulches is not an ideal summer destination making plans for another WV trip this summer and plan the SC trip for the fall. But I need some input.

I've done Kairos once and it was great. Tip top camp ground and great people so thats on the list again.

Rode GER last fall, cool place, good trails, great folks. Should've got a cabin since the "camp site" was meh... We rode two days and I think we did everything our group could do. Would love to go back and run cripple creek and the other hard stuff but that wasn't in the cards for that group. So sort of know what's up there.

Have never run Ivy Branch. Is Ivy Branch now called Bear Wallow? Read there's over 80 miles of trails. Are these two path dirt roads or a good mix of hardcore and moderate trails? Are there bypasses for the smaller rigs to get around on or is it make it or don't? Where does one stay / tent camp up there.

Figure all three of those places are close to each other. Would really like to try Ivy or Bear wallow or both if they're two separate systems. So thinking about hitting two or maybe all three in one trip. My old leaf sprung CJ is on locked tons and 42's, others in the group are running 36" ish tired rigs and generally prefer trail rides more so than rev limit beat downs. I'm up for either. Any feedback on bear wallow would be great

Wow. Never thought I’d see rock run posted on this site. I haven’t wheeled there in 6 or 7 yrs. I have a friend that helped build the more extreme trails. I stay on the north side of the park when I go to PA. Used to ride quads all over that property before it became a park.
