If you drive YJ or TJ heh.

Just picked up a Cobra 19 Ultra III today, and am trying to figure out where to mount the antenna and the CB its self. Any ideas?

I have a YJ and the same CB, I mounted mine right in front of the shifter (manual) right on on the air cond. blower. Its out of the way and easy to get too. Also I had my antenna bolted onto where the rear tire carrier was in the middle bolt with a custom mount i made. But now its on my bumper

whatever you do dont mount your antenna on the bumpstop for the stock tire carrier.....i mounted mine there was goin down a trail...got to the end and had no antenna!! had to go down the trail agian and find it.....ended up catching on a treebranch and ripping thru the thin metal there.....

CB is mounted in the place of one of the vents:

antenna is mounted to a tab welded to a piece of my cage:

Mine's mounted in my toolbox.. the one in my garage, that is.. I'm a slacker.

I think I decided to put it on the plastic center counsel next to the shifter (drivers side).

Im a bit worried about knocking it around though when I get in the jeep.

Question, I should NOT power on the unit without the antenna attached correct?

My YJ has an 8' antenna mounted on the spare tire bumpstop and I have never broken because I use a spring mount. I mounted the CB to my overhead speaker thing. That is definitely NOT where you want to mount it. It is a pain.

I am one step ahead of Rich. Mine is sitting under my center arm rest and plugs into the cig lighter wit a giant magnetic mount on the roof

oh Wait that is 3 steps ahead of Rich :)

Mounted it right near my feet, but far enough away where its an awesome spot. Microphone will be mounted up near my drivers side top air vents in the center counsel.

The antenna was mounted through a hole already on a brace bolting the bumper to the frame or whatever. I have to drill a hole through the stock License plate holder though. Waiting on my friend with a drill.

EDIT, question...I used an adapter to be able to use the Wire radioshack had, will this diminsh quality any? I also used a 20 foot cable rather than a 10, just to be safe, same question applies to this, bad quality?

I got my CB mounted on the back side of my center console with the clip for the mic up above the cup holder.

one more question, how do I wire this thing up? The wires arent long enough to reach the battery, but long enough to reach my fuse panel inside the Jeep...

Find an open fuse terminal that is hot when your key is on. Crimp on a spade connector and plug in. Use an inline fuse, probably came with the CB.

i always wire mine up so i can turn the cb on and off with the key cut off....that way you dont have to cut the key on, or even have the key in the truck for that matter to use it....i.e. u leave ur truck at camp and ride with someone else....one of you buddies who doesnt have a cb but knows you have one in ur truck which is at camp...cuts on the cb and finds out where everyone is on the trail......you just hafta hope he/she is a good enough friend to cut the cb off lol, otherwise uve got a dead battery......its all just a personel preference really...either wire it up to a always hot or to a key on hot...good luck............................bigwaylon i love the mounting spot...looks great!

I got an aftermarket tire carrier on the bumper, so I used a previous hole in the trunk that was made for the tire carrier. I grinded off the paint, put a metal "L" shape bracket there, and added the attena.

Side note... I had to drill out the bracket hole, and add tape around the edges, then made sure the nylon piece on the attena went through the bracket hole, and no metal touched the bracket directly (I got twice as good out going signal)
