Which Battery?

I just got my Yellow top replaced for the third time and prior to that had my red top replaced like 3-4 times. All of them in different vehicles. I have had the worst luck with the optima's. I am oing back down in the am to swap the yellow top for the 1K CCA dual post advance brand 3 year replacment warranty and pocket $100-$120. for the money go with a good battery with a great waranty. just my .02

Interstate. The quality of Optimas has drastically declined in the past few years.

I have heard optimas are having a lot of trouble now. My next purchase will be a deep cycle, maybe an Interstate with dual posts

I've run the gambit with Optimas and appear to have a couple good Red Tops... after just 6 returns.

Tried the Exide "Orbital" in between the RTs... lasted all of 1 trip :shaking:

A bud of mine has been running dual Autozoo batteries for years and just swaps them out yearly under the warranty for much less than the cost of a single Optima over 5 years

i had a yellowtop i picked up used at autozone when i had my jeep...paid i think 40 bux for it....only lasted like 4 or 5 months....i use whatever brand oreilly's has...they seem to last a good while

had my yellow top for 3 or so years. drained it quite a few times. charged it and its as good as new. i run a pretty large stereo system and offroad lights w/o any issues.
i am not so sure the new yellow tops are as good as the old ones.
i just suggest getting something with a good warranty!

Once Exide began making Optimas for them (instead of Johnson Controls) they went to shit....the same thing that killed the die hard name in the mid 90s...some fools never learn.

Id go with a wally world battery.
If it evers goes dead just take it back into the front customer service counter and they will replace it without a bunch of junk and testing it....and lieing about it not needing replacing etc.

Odyssey? Have heard good things about them. I've got a yellow top in my truck and haven't had any problems, but I generally start it up and drive it once a month or more.

I have a yellow top duralast and I've had it replaced 3 times since November.....don't buy one.

Guys thanks for the info I will look for a new battery that is not red or yellow top. Lot of money for those batteries, I like the warenty idea. Thanks again

I've had really good performance from the ProComp blue top (same as yellow top internally...but with a second set of posts for lights/etc)...

They also make a yellow top...might give them a shot.

Oh yeah...I didn't see you mention it, but I'd go yellow/blue with a winch, red (or "normal" wally world/autozone/etc) without a winch...

Interesting, I've had the Orbital for about 18 mo now and never a problem, completely drain at least twice, bounced right back. One of those trips was last year's 4x4Cross, certainly alot of bouncing then.
(this rmeinds me, I need a bettery battery tie down)
IIRC it was only a hair more expensive than a typical battery at NAPA

I've got what must be a 6-8 yr old red-top in my Tahoe, but I won't buy another one after all the threads I have read bashing their recent performance. Obviously something major with their construction changed a few years ago.

When it came time to buy a battery for my cab truck, I bought a big ass 9xx something CCA commercial battery from Sam's for like $80-90.

Optima is made by Johnson Controls not Exide. Johnson control bought the Optima company about 8 years ago. At that time optima was built in Colorado, now most are built in Mexico.

Exide build there own version called the Orbital and also builds the Pro Comp battery.

The Interstate Version of the Optima is also built by Johnson Controls.
