So I have an amc 360 with a sm465 tranny and np205 case. What clutch do I need ? I'm having a real hard time finding one. Parts store people are idiots around here and I'm new to building rigs.
I don't have the answer for you, but go to this site and dig around. http://www.advanceadapters.com/tech-vault/ They have some pdf's for building jeeps (I assume you are doing this on the cj5 in your signature but they have pdfs for other makes if not) with about every combination of motor/trans/TC you can come up with. See what you can learn there if no one has an instance answer. You also may want to hit the jeepforum.com CJ tech section or earlycj5.com site and ask those crowds too, been done many times I suspect. My guess is the clutch for the Chevrolet tranny and the correctly balanced AMC360 flywheel, but I am not anything close to an expert. Hope I understood your question and that helps some. Post up what you find, I am toying with the same combination but with the D20 TC in my case. (you definitely don't want advice from the kid working at the FLAPS).
I've had great luck calling centerforce clutch tech line. I ordered two different clutches for my 67 fairlane and neither one fit. The disc was too big for the splines on one and the pressure plate bolt pattern was too small on the other. The car is all factory and those were the only clutches summit listed. I called centerforce the guy had me measure a few things and gave me a part number to order. It fit perfect.
Yeah I agree with Tim when I did the four speed swap on my 67 cougar it was a mess of different parts a 351w out of a 96truck at trans from a 65 mustang and the flywheel and bellhousing from a 67pretty cougar with a 289 after about 15 minutes on the phone with the very patient fellow from centerforce waiting for me to get him the measurements he required he had me fixed up with all the right part numbers
My buddy took a t18 out of a cj7 and swamped in a sm465. It took the same clutch and he even reused his old clutch. Just get an 11" disk for a Chevy and a 11" pressure plate for ur 360.
Seems odd that you are having trouble finding the clutch kit. That was a fairly popular combo on the older CJs and J trucks. The J trucks were bastard children though. They came with a bunch of different combos. Mine had a 360 and TH400.
Thanks guys ill dig around some on those sights and may call center force this afternoon all I need is a clutch and intake to get this thing dropped in my cj.
