Ok, I'm swapping out the Dana 35 rearend that I got in my 98 TJ, but can't decide if I should go with an 8.8 or a Dana 44. What arevsome opinions on this?
8.8 Generally speaking: easier to find, in the correct bolt pattern for your application, little bit stronger, disc brakes easier to get. I've done 3 swaps, found them locally for around $350.
Is the big difference between the 2 just that the 8.8 is stronger? The 44 I'm looking at came out of a TJ just like mine, so bolt pattern isn't going to be an issue I don't think.
if the d44 just came out of a jeep just like your, i would said that would be quite a bit easier. no brackets, no fabrication, just bolt it in. I would go with the d44.
this is the best information i have ever seen on JU. most of there stuff is BS but occasionally you can run across a real gem. this is pretty much everything you would ever need to know about an 8.8 and why they are better than d44's.
