About to start building my yj, and I've got to have a transfer. I'm going to run 37" tires with a ax 15, and eventually want 4:1 gears. My question is; should I just put in another 231, or go ahead and put in a flipped d300? Not sure how the 231's hold up with the 4:1 kits in them

I have not heard of too many going boom from factory stuff. Add strokers or v-8's and definitely go 300. JMHO!

I would install a 231 to d300 doubler if you have the length available. Better gear selection and deeper low.

In a YJ that would be a short rear shaft I would think unless you stretched the rear out some.

I'm planning on stretching the back at least 2". Don't know if that's enough for a doubler, and Not really sure about a fuel cell behind the rear seat.

Just did some measuring. The behemoth 231-300 doubler is 3/4" shorter than my stock 231. Behemoth said it's 19.75" from mounting point to center of yoke. My stock 231 is 20.5".
