When my truck is at idle it makes a whining noise comming from front of motor.. When I hit the gas it goes away. Looked this up in google everything on there is a constant whining noise that never goes away.

Sprayed stuff with wd40 just to see if that would help nothing.

probably mud stuck somewhere any ideas would help

thanks

would help if you tell us what kind of vehicle you have.

It's most likely one of your pulleys, their bearings dont like mud. I know mine dont. I would check idler and tensioner pulley first as they are the cheapest.

wd 40 is good to eliminate a belt squeek but usually doesnt change bearing noise. don't know the type of vehicle but you could try to turn the a/c on and off. see if noise changes. turn your wheels all the way to left or right. see if noise changes. if that doesn't help here's what i usually do but it is a little dangerous with a mech fan.

take a long screwdriver/prybar and place it as close to the bearing pulley area on each component. with the engine running put your ear on the end of the screwdriver/prybar and listen for the noise. it will be loudest on the bad component. hope this helps.

This is a great idea, but before you go buying a long screw driver, as you might not own one, hit up harbor freight and get a Mechanics Stethoscope, pretty cheaper there. and it works better and you don't feel a weird holding your head to a screw driver.

check the power steering fliud level

sorry guys for taking so long to respond. I have an 83 toyota with the 22r. there is no ac. only made the sound when it was sitting there idleing for a little while hasnt made it since. when I sprayed the 40 I thought it was a belt. Power steering fluid is good it has the tg power steering kit with the canister. will let idle agian and see if sound continues.
