So I was grabbing my registration out of the jeep to do some paperwork and find the original owners manual and warranty info on my 95. Out of curiousity I look in it since I really don't know jack about its past other than it hasn't been wrecked. The previous owner also left his bill of sale inside. He told me when I looked at it that he'd only had it for 5k miles and he wasn't really a jeep guy (it was obvious). He failed to mention he had driven it 6000 miles since 04 (bought it in late 07). 2k miles a year! Look into the owners manual and the previous owner had noted every oil change, spark plug changes, tire rotation, any mods, hoses, radiator caps to the exact day and mileage. So creepy imho. Who notes when they cleaned their air intake? I thought it was fake then I found the stickers that he saved from jiffy lubes, the stealership, etc from changing the oil. The longest he ever went was 3200 miles and thats in 120k miles of ownership. Crazy!

I've come accross manuals with simliar information.. If i was ever dumb enough to buy new again, i think i'd do the same thing.

The original owner must have been some kind of engineer.
I wonder if he even had a spreadsheet on his computer, including every single fuel fill-up, calculating fuel mileage and graphed it over time, etc. That would be really crazy if I, er, um, I mean, someone did that

I do that with every vehicle I own. Every service, every modification. Every tank of gas.

It is a huge investment and it is fueled by way too much of my take home salary...

I keep my eye on it.

My xj (Waggy limited) came with the window sticker and a notebook full of info. It had every tank of gas entered and the milage it got from new till a 130k (when I got it). Seemed creepy to me, but cool too.

lol, Ive got to manila folders full of records for my FJ. Both of the PO's were very into landcruisers and took really good care of it. im pretty thankful.

When my TJ was new I kept up to date records of everything especially since I was using it for work also an they were reimbursing some if not all of the money depending on what it was. After it got wrecked all that went out the window

When I got the crew cab I got a notebook full of information and receipts from where the po did a frame on restoration. Practially everything he bought he put the receipt in the note book, including the crate motor and most of the accessories. The cool part, a lot of things like the starter and alt etc have life time warranties!

my buddies granddad does that with everything, not just his vehicles. he has tags on his generator and chainsaw that tells when they were cranked, how long they ran, when he added sta-bil, everything. FWIW, he is a chemical engineer. the poor guy is crazy OCD.

the most youll get outta me is the top flap of the box the oil filter came in the the mileage the oil was changed at written on it, but then again i just do stuff when i think its needed.

my buddy has a 98 tacoma 2 owner 260k PO has every record written down from oil changes to tires to........EVERTHING. funny thing is it has org timing belt and water bump. nothings been replaced beside oil, filters, tires, plugs and wires......runs better than most stuff new on the road. all come down to taking care of somthing. Youd be suprised with how much stuff people right down and take records of matinance

Stupid engineers.
:)
It sure is cool to be able to graph fuel mileage, average it, maintenance costs, etc...
But I can blame my dad for this one - he did that for his cars, and I remember growing up having to wait at the gas station until he filled it out...

Hm - I have done thsi w/ my Mazda since the day I bought it. I keep a little flip-top notepad in the glovebox - aside from maintanance, I record every gas fillup (always fill tank). Include current mileage, gallons added, octane, and calculated MPGs for that tank.
I could tell you my average MPGs for any time period in the last 3 years.

This kind of notation is extremely usefull when, say, you are changing the oil and notice your brake fluid is pretty dirty looking.
"Hm... how long has it been like that? Have I topped it off recently? I can't remember." Oh look, yep, last oil change, sucked it out and refilled w/ new, but didn't do full bleed. better bleed and keep an eye on it, etc etc.

I guess it really makes a difference based on your philosophy of how long to keep the car. If you plan to keep it 100k+ minimum mi, it really helps out.

I don't do it, but I don't see what's creepy? I think it's pretty cool to be able to see the history of the truck. A lot of times that's the only way you have of knowing anything about it's life.

I did this with my Mustang hen i first got it, all maintenance, all gas all repair/restor and all performance work...I quit when I added one day and saw Id spent 25k

My Father does this.

Every fill-up, every oil change, tire rotation, tire change, everything. He even records the cost of a gallon and which store he bought it from. He has done it with all of his vehicles for as long as I can remember and when he bought his JK, he specifically bought a color matching leather bound notebook to keep the records in. On the JK he even records if he had the hard top on or the soft top or if he was topless or doorless. Whatever configuration he had while driving is recorded.

Yes... he is an IBM Engineer

That's exactly why I don't put any $$ notes next to things, only what was done, date, mileage, etc, lol.
