thinking of building a 2nd gen 4runner the 4 door style, it has a 3 link suspenision factory , our most people swapping to leafs. does anyone sell a kit for the rear planning on sasing it.

thought about just dropping the coil buckets down 3 inches.

I've heard of it done by using FJ80 rear coils and 2" spacers. Haven't tried it myself, I have the coils but not the spacers.

Longer traling arms make it a much better ride and conversion, along with track bar drop.

Have also seen leaf conversion, works, but a lot of work.

check your PM's

A buddy of mine has a 90 4runner with a sas, on the rear it has TALL coils and a 'long arm' three link setup plus tracbar. Looks to be homemade, as he bought it this way. But it works great, normal sas leafs in front.
You've already got a coiled and linked setup, I really can't understand why people swap out to leaves. Going backwards it seems to me.

Probably along the same principle of putting leafs in the back of a TJ. I hear it makes it more stable, but I haven't ridden in a rear leaf sprung TJ.

go to a toy dealer and talk to a service tech i cant remember what year but theire was a recall on rear runner springs and you can probably get your hands on some old ones and install them upside down its good for about 6" of lift ! im sure they have at least 1 weeler in the shop that knows what im talking about

Yha the front fj 80 coils in the back and a leaf sprung SAS upfront is the way to go. I think that marlin crawler sells a good kit. There are tons of nice 2nd gen 4runners out there, just look around online, when I get the money I will be doing a bit more of a lift on mine.

Everyone has listed good options. I got the all pro extreme lift kit with an 84 front axle with longfields.

Thanks Greg and bronco. Still got a list of things wrong with it haha. Horn hasnt worked for God knows how long, rear end sags, needs new shocks, maybe spring hangers, new tires, hopefully not a new clutch and to put the rear springs on the right way.

4runners

Jason, your truck is bad ass! If I ever buy a Toyota, its going to look similar to yours.
Has anyone seen a huge white 4runner around greensboro? I was pulling into the street Southern Firearms is on off of West Market and saw a really nice monster 4 runner. Not sure of the year, but I think its not too old.

Hey Jason i would like to see some better pics of your rear setup if you have any. I know its like a pickup rear but i havnt saw many 4runners w/ rear leafs. Im trying to get an idea of what im gonna do on my project 4runner.

By chance where did your buddy buy his runner? Sounds like my old rig.

going leafs does seam to be going backwards to me, i got some fj80 coil thanks blkvodoo so that is what i am going to use. Althought chevies do work well seems they might not lst long witht he extra weight of the runner.

you can not get the flex out of coils in the front that you can with leafs thats why you sas it for the FLEX. there is also a limmit to how high you can lift it with coils up front with out doing a lot more to it that you would just doing a sas
