I need to thin out an LS harness...someone on here was doing it and reflashing ECMs, right?

Dude. Jim’s
Jim will thin a harness decently aside from the flimsy half-ass wireloom job.
I'm excessively picky about stuff.

Well who ya recommend then?

a lot of that would depend on whether or not you already have a harness and if you're happy with the condition of it. There's companies now that advertise online where you can order a complete harness built to spec without having to ship one to them. A buddy of mine ordered one and it turned out really nice I thought.
As far as my recommendations on someone to do a complete harness trim down I've only had two done; one by Jim and one by Wild Man and I only recommend one of those.

That sounds about like the quality of his tunes as well.

I just sent one off today to a guy in upstate SC that was recommended by a tuner. I'll send you a pm.
Glad you chimed in. I knew there was a guy you, Marcus and several other use I just couldn't recall his name.

I can thin them as well but hadn't got into the tuning yet... I want to though. I've done many swaps out of the normal realm of R&R... Just have so much volume of work that i just say pick a ticket number and wait.

Since opening my shop and doing a bunch of LS swaps I have noticed that most harnesses end up having damaged, brittle and broken wires connectors and corrosion issues. I now for time and custom fitment order new harness which is cheaper and faster in the long run

This is where my money would be.

I'm had several friends who, after getting a harness and going through the whole thing, within a year or two still had trouble just b/c of the age of the parts. Unless you can get one fro ma pretty recent car you know is in good shape, it seems like a better bet to just order a custom one.

what is this thinning of a wiring harness you speak of?
For folks who have swapped a motor into a buggy, they need only part of the whole wiring harness from the original car, basically just stuff associated with engine performance, and not all othe other misc stuff that now is all bundled together. So guys will "thin it out" to include only the important stuff. Its a pain in the butt if you're not a fan or wiring diagrams.

It’s a pain in the ass, only if you don’t have a bunch of time. Sure there are a bunch of dudes out there that can knock out a harness in a few hours. But average joe is gonna take a bit to figure out which wires to keep. It’s easy to in pin and Repin stuff from the connectors. Then cutting all the tape, loom, and whatever else. Separating the stuff you don’t need from what you need. Back to tape and loom to make it look halfway decent. It’s really easy to just buy a $500-600+ harness and plug it all in, and turn the key. Then have $300+in a factory harness thinned out and turn the key.

This x100. We do a good bit of LS swaps here. Tried the modified factory harness once, never again. Unless it is on my own rig, because I know the harness. Any customer LS swaps we do get new harnesses. All brand new wiring, connectors and looks.
