Does anybody remember which member was selling 2 large military generators mounted over single axle's so they were towable? I am pretty sure it was in the misc for sale but i don't see it anymore. I know someone that may be interested in both if they are still available. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I think it was @Tacoma747

But if he doesnt have them anymore let me know what you need....I have plenty of different options

@Ron do you deal with Generac backup systems or just portables?

My company is the Generac Industrial Power distributor for much of the southeast.
Personally I buy and sell used generators of all brands.

How can I help?

We are looking at options for whole house, but plan to move in under 3 years.

I assume recouping a whole house system's cost is not gonna be totally possible so how hard are they to move? I have read that the 22kw setups are as cheap as the 16kw setups. Either would run everything in my home. What aprox is the cost installed with a manual vs. auto switch and if I want it out in my shelter is the only additional expense the extra 75' of wiring?

If I bought a diesel portable with the KW to run the whole house it would be more expensive right? I have looked at some PTO models but tying up the tractor when I might need it for cleanup seems dumb after considering it.

In the 16/22kW range check here:
Norwall PowerSystems

They have every brand you would want. And below 25kW their prices cant be touched. For example on a 22kW I buy about 5-8% below their sell price. Then because I have nexus in NC I have to charge you sales tax...AT best If I bought it, handled it, processed it, made $0 and sold it and charged you sales tax ..I'd only be a couple dollars high. $4,897 delivered for a 22kW and a 200A SE rated ATS. That price is like a sore peter. Cant beat it.

Dont waste a mili-second on brain power on automatic vs manual transfer.
No reason. A 200A residential ATS is ~$500. Manual may save $50. You can make your automatic act manual you cant make your manual act auto.

A new 20kW diesel trailer unit is 3-4x the cost you will see above.

Not sure I follow about the shelter. You want to place the gen out there? Or you want to run additional power out there.

As far as removing and recouping....I just dont think it works. Charge a few $k more for the house when you sell. Use that as a negotiations, ok we will drop the price the k you asked but we are taking out generator system with us..bet they balk.

But this is not installed.

Any licensed electrician can install if you have the generator already set and all he has to do is run the wire and the transfer panel your looking at a days work AT MOST

There is a bit more than that...but not much.
Usually takes a couple days to mount the ATS, intercept the service feed wires, re-route them to the ATS, run new service wires from the ATS to the panel. Big factor is how hard is it to get back into the indoor 9usually) main panel. If you have an LB where it goes into the wall its pretty easy. If you are crawling under a house and trying to pull it back through a driller wooden stud it can be a pain. In one extreme case I actually reqorked the weather head and relocated the meter and set the ATS in the current meter location as opposed to redoing the feed.
Then you have gas plumbing. And finally start up and calibrating the equipment. Usually takes me 2 days (more like 1.5) to install a resi unit by myself....but I dont do it often. Someone who does it daily might be quicker.

Yeah, want the unit out in the shelter away from the house.

Ok. then yeah just the additional cost of wire/trenching. Just remember its designed to sit outside. Not sure what kind of shelter you have but it needs clear and free air flow and open air to make sure exhaust air gets away from the unit and not sucked back in.

But this is not installed.
Anyone who gives you a labor price over the net without seeing your house....run away.

Material and labor cost for a contractor is going to be between $500 and...who the heck knows. It all depends on how difficult the actual house is.

I usually tell folks $6k is the absolute cheapest it can be done and go up from there....but again how much work you want to do yourself can impact that numbers.

Getting to main feed wires is fairly easy and getting them back out of the panel would be simple. Could transfer switch be surface mounted just inside crawlspace door? Wiring from meter is long enough to reach there.

Then I assume wire from gennie to switch and switch to panel.

By code transfer switch needs to be accessible, which means not in the crawl space
