Today i drove to raliegh from wilmington to pick up a transmission in wake forest. Right outside of raleigh on 40 there must have been every cop, staty and sheriff out. They were having all the trucks go into the rest stops for inspections. and along the road i must have passed at least 30 cops pulling people over, nevermind the two helicopters hovering around.

WTF? I've never seen anything like it.

There was talk about it on the news.. Commercial truck "crack down" this week..

Operation "harass the wrong fucking guys" I think it's called...

Meanwhile, the uninsired 'cans drive by with 3 bald tires, 1 headlight, no brake fluid in the master cylinder, no insurance, 3 chrome spinner hubcaps, and every sticker from the ricer aisle at PepBoys. :shaking:

From the WRAL story:

Highway Patrol troopers and Johnston County deputies inspected 557 commercial vehicles on Interstates 40 and 95 and found 261 driver violations and 583 truck violations. Sixty-six drivers and 69 trucks were ordered off the road.

Discovery of overweight trucks also produced about $20,000 in fines, authorities said.

Wonder how many of the 66 drivers were from somewhere south of Texas?

Rich you forgot the most important details!!!!!!!!!!

Those overweight trucks and illegal trucks cause over 3.7 BILLION dollars worth of road damage usa wide each year which = more tax payers money and more working zone time to fix it. I think its a good thing they are doing it. NC used to be ranked #1 in the USA for the best roads and road conditions. Now we are 38 or something. Pay attention to detail!!!! Truckers make the world go round and I have 4 friends that drive big rigs but don't break laws doing it. Yes there are more cops then people on I95.:usa:

we have more miles of paved road than any other state, but we are rankd like 48 or 49 on the list i think.
and we pay all these fuel taxes, but our roads blow!!!

ROADS

Commercial trucks pay for a very large portion of our road use taxes. It was over $5000 per truck 25 years ago, probably $10,000 or more now. Thats just for NC, and the vehicle will probably run 80% of the yearly miles out of the state. The question is, "Where does all the tax money get spent?"

Hey, they are doing thier jobs. It is up to the inspectors each year to get the other idiots off the road. With the Mexican border open to 44 trucks and up 100 in 6 months... so on and so on... you are going to be happy for these crack downs. You go on any trucker board and they openly talk about 2 log books, over loading and poor truck maintance. At least they aren't busting you for tire wideth restrictions or hieght laws...
