Anyone here have any suggestions? Tired of feeling like I live in a tesla coil, I've done some research and would like to install a HVAC mounted unit but I'm worried it will freeze in the attic. Any info is appreciated.

Honeywell True steam will not freeze but it is a constant water supply in your attic....That is why my company WILL NOT install them in attics.

I agree the biggest problem would be the water supply in an attic. The other problem is mold growth If not maintained properly and often. I would look at self contained table top units. You don't need year round humidification, probably 2 or 3 months and you can see what you got. Take longer hot showers with the bath fan not running or get more teenagers , they will do it for you.

I agree with mold man. We stay away from whole house humidifiers as well. Same reasons. They can introduce too much moisture at the point of entry. Creates mold issues.

Shower with the bathroom door open and no exhaust fan!

Depending on your home, you could also look into removing all the siding and installing a vapor barrier to keep the moisture inside the house in the winter, and keep the higher humidity air on the outside in the summer. Of course this is if the house doesn't have it. When I insulated my house (was built in 1960 with empty wall cavities) I did the vapor barrier and I swear it made a difference in the house, I usually suffer from chapped lips/dry skin in the winter and have not had that problem in a couple years now. I also think part of the benefit to having better insulation in my house is that the heat and A/C do not run nearly as much as they used to, so the air is not being dried out as regularly.
