My wife has rented a cabin at Lake Joccasee for my birthday. We're just going for a weekend. We're taking the kids (5 and 11)

So...who's been, how was it and what did ya do?
Cabin comes with a couple of kayaks, so I know we'll do that. And will definatly take a few zebco 33s for some family fishin'.

Anybody have any tips or advice on secret swimming spots with swinging ropes or anything cool like that? Cabin is in NC.

Been about 5 years since I've gone...absolutely love every time I go. Water is crystal clear, waterfall areas the water is a little cool. I remember as a kid always enjoying pulling up on a bank/sand bar playing with whatever fish might be in the wading pools. Don't remember specific names or anything...just go cruising, it's gorgeous scenery.

I Love Joccasse.
Its beauty is it isnt commercialized.

The water is crystal clear and cool. One word of warning, it is a mountain lake. Make sure everyone can swim. There are 350'+ deep spots. Many places the bank goes from knee deep to 15' in a matter of a foot.

The state park has a nice "beach area".

When I was in college Devil's Fork was a common get away...used to be a badass rope swing there. Probably a 20' drop if you rode it all the way out.

We used to camp out there on a remote island back in the early 90s. We could be there the entire weekend and see maybe 1 other person. It was great.

The further into NC we went close to the mouth of the creek, the less clear the lake was. We always brought snorkeling gear. One of my favorite memories was taking the boat up to NC and to the creek, anchoring and swimming to the creek with inner tubes. We'd hike up the creek and tube down to the lake and drift out to the boat. Fun stuff.

This one time my dad and I showed up at the wildlife boat ramp, back before the beach was there. A deputy sheriff and the sheriff were drunk, in uniform, on the dock at night, shooting bats off the dock. They were nice and all but a little off their rocker.

We did find a random rope swing and used it a lot and found some rock cliffs to jump off of. Haven't been there since the mid 90s. I'm sure it sees more traffic nowadays

Once upon a time, CTB had a trail ride in that area. And That's all I can recall! Robbie might be the only one that could fill you in on the Trail. I'm Sure, it's like the Rest, > Long Gone now!

Any updates on this? How was it? Did the whole family like it? Do you mind sharing the cabin info?

The family and I have been looking for a nice place that not crowded for a little brake.

Horse Pasture Rd maybe? It's in SC and on the short list for me. Especially if I can get a decent street jeep to take up there.

Turns out wife didn't book cabin at Lake Joccasee, the cabin she booked turned out to be a beautiful A frame home on Lake Glenville.
We had a great time, neighbors took us on boat rides, we had kayaks and jet skis at the cabin too. Had a lot of fun with those. A really bad thunder storm rolled through Friday night and left us without power until Saturday eve. That kinda sucked but we made the best out of it.
The place was built on the side of the mountain, which was beautiful...until we wanted to go down to the lake. 179 steps down...179 steps up. No break along the way, just steps...too many steps. When we went to the lake, we made sure we were prepared to stay at the lake for a while. I can get the cabin info when the wife gets home.

That's my favorite lake. Grew up camping on it. I remember when there weren't any house on the islands. We were also the last people to legally camp on the two small islands closest to the dam

I searched around on the map, & nothing rings any old bells. Seems we used to met in a small town, & then go to a visitors area that had a swinging wooden bridge, over the creek or small river. That was just a stop for sight seeing, the trail may have been Horse Pasture. I just don't know.
