Mityvac.

Holy crap this thing is awesome.

After all the years spent bleeding brakes and clutches the old way, never again. I spent Tuesday night under my Trans Am trying to bleed a clutch setup that was brand new and I failed to bench bleed. After being coated in brake fluid and still having a dead clutch pedal, yesterday I went and bought a Mityvac. I literally had it done in 10 minutes without any mess at all.

Tomorrow I get to do the front brakes on my wife's Trailblazer, so at least I'll get good use out of it.

They are definitely handy, even the cheapo $5 imitation one I picked up at Harbor Fright that broke on my first use (should have known), and was promptly rigged up has more than paid for itself. I've used it 4-5 times with the rigged repair and it definitely makes bleeding brakes/clutches by your self way easier.

A friend of mine, 4X4girl on here, rigged up a nice system for brakes and such. It's a large piece of PVC pipe, with a threaded lid. It is necked down at the bottom with a hose that fits over a bleeder valve. you can put a small amount of pressure in the "tank", and when I say small amount, use a hand pump. A valve at the bottom to allow it to push fluid into chamber and push out of the reservoir. I Turkey baster to suck it out, and you can change the fluid, and bleed them too. Works great for a one man team. BTW you just hang the "tank" part on your frame via a wire that you can bent to suit the set up.

i have both a pressure vac and a mityvac.. i would rather use the mityvac but i dont have power in my shop yet.. both are great

Yup use the mityvac all the time!
Its also great for replacing power steering fluid - suck it out of the resovoir instead of makin ga huge mess by popping a hose.

One note: for brakes, it really helps to take the bleeder screws out and wrap some yellow Teflon around the threads. That way you get a better seal and it won't suck air through the threads. Don't use white Telfon b/c the brake fluid will eat it.

Tip of the day!!!
Don't forget to oil the seal in it. A drop or two of oil in the rear where the plunger comes out the rear and it will last much longer...

Good tip!
I've accidentally sucked brake fluid through mine a few times... I'm sure that's not helping that seal out any ;-)
