Why do extreme 4x4rs use a anti-sway bar?

This may sound dumb but I thought the point was to get as much flex as possible. Everyone with Wranglers have disconects. Now I see the guys with big built rigs in the mags using anit-sway bars. Whats the deal? The reason I'm asking is I'm starting a buggy project in a few weeks.
Thanks
Guy

More tuneability and stability. The guys with wranglers disco their swaybar because A; it's a stock swaybar that was not built with flex in mind, B; Jeep drivers do what other jeep drivers do. And C; A stock suspension jeep doesn't flex enough to worry about it. I've gone from no swaybar to a 3/4" bar to now a 7/8" bar on the rear of the bronco--all used circle track parts. It drives much better on and off road now. Massive amounts of uncontrolled flex are overrated and only good for pictures.

Also, to make the front and rear do equal work - to balance the suspension.

Flex is a great thing in moderation. in my pre anti-rock days I could almost flop on my side with all four tires on terafirma

anyone want to volunteer pics of their homebrew sway bars?
