*Update*
Just wanted to share some additional news. I was named as one of the finalists for the NC regional teacher of the year.

Basically, I made it to the round of 16 out of 97,000-ish. That's where the rollercoaster stopped for me. It just so happens that our region's teacher of the year for the previous year not only came from my district, but my school, too. Seems the powers that be spread the wealth, so, I was named runner-up. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that I wasn't selected to move on. But, this whole teacher of the year thing has been a blast. I've gotten tons of opportunities to lead more staff development, speak publicly, recruit new teachers at job fairs, and lecture at local universities. It's given me way more chances to positively influence education beyond my classroom. Needless to say, I happy about that.

Good for you John! That is something to truly be proud of. Congrats and thanks for teaching our kids. It is folks like you who saved my but and got my attention to stay in school. Granted I had to stay an extra year to make up for my fun (lack of credits) in my 9th and 10th grade years.
