Ok, plenty probably saw my "need help in Wilmington" post earlier.

Here is the story behind it and a damn good dude.

I was in Wilmington for work Tues-Thursday this week.

This afternoon I had the great experience of a (4 month old) brake pad coming apart and taking out a front caliper in the process, leaving me essentially broke down in the middle of the road. I grind the locked up chunk of pad through the rotor into a close by parking lot and begin searching for a shop to have ti towed to for repair. This is right around 12 after several calls no one is "sure" they get me fixed today, and I have a pretty big meeting back in Charlotte tomorrow at 8AM.

So my post this afternoon was on hopes of finding someone who knew a local independent shop I could have the truck towed to who would stay late if necessary to get me worked in and throw a set of pads and a caliper on the truck. (Certainly not a monumental task but 250 miles from home and not a tool beyond a lug wrench with me...and on the side of a highway I wasnt equipped to tackle it.)

So I throw this post up:
http://www.nc4x4.com/forum/index.php?threads/need-help-in-the-wilmington-area.145306/#post-1198322

Literally within 5 minutes of posting I get a text,
"This is Jake, saw your post on NC4x4, Im in Wilmington how can I help."

I respond and explain the above and ask if he knows any local shops or mechanics etc.

So Jakemd98, who I should add Ive never met in my life before today, says man I usually do all my own work, dont really know many mechanics but Ill run to the house grab some tools and a floor jack and see if we cant tackle it ourselves where you are. About 30 minutes later he shows up, jumps right in helps me tear it apart. Then gives me a ride to the parts house, where we get the replacement parts and he takes me back and helps me reassemble everything.

All this and he never asked for a penny. Simply said, "Man Ive been in a jam before and someone helped me just glad I can help out"

I cant overstate how big of a help this was. Jake didnt just show up I literally had to fight him to
even help him fix it. For someone he had never met before.

Jake, thank-you.
You are the ultimate example of the power of this little community we have created here.

If you ever need anything I can help with it's yours!

::beer::

Props to him! If I wasn't almost 2 hrs from Wilmington, I would have rode out to lend a hand. Odd part is...my name is Jake too :D

If anybody is ever in Craven, Jones, Carteret, or Onslow counties...I got you covered!

Glad you got the help you needed, good thing you didn't weld a trampoline frame to your rig before you left, nothing but grief from this place then...

Sent while I should have been doing something constructive...

We didn't help Blaze when he broke down on Wednesday, though. F that guy. :flipoff2:

Truth be told, I didn't see he was broken down until it was all over with and done.

NICE!!! ...... some people think there's nothing but a bunch of @$$ holes on here..... guess this proves that wrong LOL

Some faith in Humanity restored!!!

Actually, someone did text me and offered to help, but they didn't realize I was in a fullsize 3/4 ton truck and they had a Tacoma!

About 10 years ago, I broke down on a trip back from Florida with my Ex wife and 1 year old kid. No smart phone, not even a cell phone. It was about 5am and I was down around Columbia SC. Made it to a rest stop and called a buddy who jumped online and posted on here and a couple of other local forums. By about 9am, some guy I never met before in my life shows up with his truck and trailer and hauled me up to Carolina Rock Shop North of Charlotte. I happened to have another Jeep there for some bumpers. We transferred our luggage over and he took off back home to Columbia SC.

If I'm not mistaken that guy (and unfortunately his name slips my mind now) was from either NC4x4 or CNC or Trailblazers. He wouldn't even let me get his fuel, so I slipped in the gas station to get a "drink" and paid for his fill up before he could. Stories like this and Ron's are a true testament to this board and the 4wd Community. If the guy who gave me a ride remembers this, please let me know. I'd like to thank you again.

I may talk alot of crap on here and in the real world but I have never left a friend in need, ill help but im gona talk smack after its over.I have always had a good experience when dealing with everybody from the forum.im glad you got some help it doesn't surprise me at all that it came from the ranks of nc4x4

I am in the navy and one of the guys I work with called me to see if I would tow his vehicle from a gas station to his house for him knowing I have a diesel and a trailer. So I said no prob bud where's it at? Well after driving 30 miles to my house to hook on my trailer and 30 miles back I show up and he's got a bad fuel pump. He has 4 kids and another on the way and only had about $90 until the 1st when we got paid again. I towed it to my house and said look I will spot you for the new pump and help you fix it on one condition. So he says sure what's that? I said you have to pay it forward someday when you are in a position to be able to. He gratefully agreed and we got to work. I think it cost me a little under $300 for a new pump and filter and we had it changed out and running again in a couple hours.
