Why not go full hydro?

Getting ready to swap a full width hp44 into my MJ. After eyeballing the effortless turning of a few full hydro rigs at callalantee this weekend, it got the gears turning in my head. What might the downsides be? Plusses, as i see them. No stress on the frame where these cars are known to crack. Easy steering. No tie rod/bumpsteer to deal with.

I do plan to keep it kinda street legal, but i dont think the inspection thing would be a problem. Only time i would drive on the road is after unloading off the trailer to get to the trail head.

What kind of parts are people using?? I guess i would go with a double ended ram, but i have no idea what people are using for orbital valves(or if that is even the correct name for it?)

You mentioned inspection wouldnt be a problem, I 'm guessing you know full hyrdo technically isnt street legal (I think).

From what I understand, its slow to respond and can be a PITA to drive on the street. It all depends on your setup I guess. I dont really know, just wanted to be first to post

Good enough. I am aware it is illegal, but if i fail i fail i guess. I have no plans to drive this thing around anymore, like i said, if i keep a tag, it will basically be to tool around in between tow rig parking and the trailhead.

If your hydro is slow to respond, you have not designed it correctly.
biggest down side? As GubNi said cost.
Unless you deal straight with folks like Charr-lynn or Parker:flipoff2:

Even then not cheap.

Find a forklift junk yard & scavange a cyl. & matched oribital.

If you have a full hydro set up built right (so the front end can be somewhat aligned) it drives fine on the street. My buggy will cruise at 55mph or more without issues. I have a load reactive valve and it "feels" like your driving a car with power steering. After completing a turn you can let go of the wheel and it will track straight again, just like a car.

OK, i understand that i can calculate how many cu/turn i want, for a certain size cylinder. My question is how i know how fast my stock pump will move the fluid. Any chance a stock jeep pump would run a full hydro setup? it is looking like that is the part that would break the budget if i had to buy a new pump.
