I have a 1980 Jeep Cherokee, weighing about 4800 pounds. This will primarily be my DD, but want to be able to do at least medium trails. I was originally thinking about 33x12.5 tires, but have read several comments about wider not working well in snow due to the inability to bite deep. Since my Chief is so heavy, will I be OK with the 12.5s or should I go narrower?

The cheif should be heavy enough not to worry about, but then again, the 34x10.50 LTBs are pretty damn cool.

I am a narrow tire fan, I like the way a well designed narrow tire digs in and grips... but I am sure that comes a lot from my growing up with militray jeeps and narrow tires.

I am going to run 32x9.50's on my XJ

I'm a wide tire guy. I run 33x13.50s on my TJ. I think you'd be fine with 12.50s. I just feel that the wider tire is beneficial in more situations that I face than a narrow tire would be. The one situation that a narrow tire is hands down better is on muddy hills climbs. Not actually going, but the narrower tire seems to track better. You do more slipping and sliding sideways with the wider tire. That's just my experience.
