widening stock wheels w/beadlocks?????

I have this idea to roll a 1/4 x 1 1/2 flatbar, welding it inside the lip you would normally weld the beadlock to, then welding the beadlock to the flatbar to widen these stock 8 lug x 16 in.steel wheels.
The reason I 'm thinking of going this route instead of getting some other wheels is I like that they set in so much to keep my ride a little narrower, and I need the width for a 14 in. wide tire. I know you can split the wheel to make it wider, but since it's getting the beadlock anyway this would be easier.
Has anyone tried this? What do you think?

I ran 35x12.50's on 16x6 wheels with no problems on or offroad. The added inch or so of width from the beadlock would only make things better.

Braxton is correct, the 16" wheel has the retained bead rolled on the inner part of the rim.
