So the wife is hell bent on buying herself a 2011 R/T Challenger. Color is most important factor (Toxic Orange) and she's found one at a Chrysler dealership. Personally I don't want it but she can afford it so.....

Anyway, what should i be looking at? It is 1 owner with 118k, asking $11k i believe. Timing chain and guides were changed along with door handles in '14. I gotta come up with a couple good reasons not to buy this car. Help!

What’s wrong with the car? Why don’t you want it?

I'll opt for the easy one: engine seals.

If it's anything like my 2010 Jeep, the rear main seal will be sweating like a turkey on Thanksgiving.

The dealership will most likely keep it wiped down. But after a test drive it might have a nice sheen and a bead of oil ready to drop.

Test all the electronic features/options multiple times. The wife loves her 18 Durango but it seems to have issues with some little electrical feature pretty regularly, rear headrests won't fold down, blind spot monitoring system, etc. Nothing serious but annoying on a brand new car.

you should hit her with your purse.

Well, you could tell her it's an orange Challenger. That would work for most people. But obviously she don't think right because she married you :flipoff2:

Clearly the solution is a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

No particular reason, but a performance car with 118k miles on it is probably not a performance car any more. I bet it has been flogged hard. For a 9 year old car, 118k miles isn't what I would call daily driver miles, but it's also not "take it on the occasional cruise and car show" miles.

Same reason I would never buy a "demo" performance car from a dealership. Gas pedal from a car like that has hit the floor more times than the bodies at a Drowning Pool concert.

Has she driven a challenger? We had a srt one for a few months. It was fun but you can't see anything out of that thing. It also seemed huge!
One drive might be all you need to change her mind.

How many miles a year does she put on her car?

The Timing set was replaced in 2014? Do you know what the mileage was when it was changed? Chain being replaced at just 3 years speaks to either very hard use during the first part of the cars life, or a factory defect.

Also, the suspension in the R/T is not known for longevity, at 118,000, every bushing is probably wore out, I'd pay careful attention to feel in a test drive.

Honestly, I'd try my best to convince her she needs one with significantly lower miles...

Timing chain was aTSB issue, along with the door handles and window switch. As for mileage, she just wants a Friday driver, she has a 14 fusion she bought new that she drives to work.

you should hit her with your purse.
I would but she makes me keep my balls in it and that would just cause extra pain.

This is the only orange Dodge that ever looked good:

OK, Then based on that and your responses to everyone else's questions, I'd say if it checks out as what would be expected of a 110,000 mile performance car, and insurance is not going to be a big funds drain, Let her buy it, A once a week pleasure drive vehicle is the whole reason a lot of us are here on this board, and her's will have a lot less ongoing costs that most of ours!

If it’s her money, like she earned it and will use it to buy, insure, maintain, xyz then who gives a shit and when it doesn’t work out you won and didn’t pay $$. On the other hand I think they are worthless hunks of overpriced shite stereotypically relegated to a certain crowd that I wouldn’t want to be associated with but either way.
