I have a 92 yj and I need a tranny. I found an ax15 rebuilt with clutch, pressure plate, slave, and clutch master that is still in the tj. Will this be bolt in or what can I use from the tj? both jeeps are 4.0L both factory manuals

I "think" that the mounting bracket is slightly different on the YJ skid than the TJ.
That being said, I think the YJ's transmission mount has the same bolt pattern on the top, aka transmission side, so as long as you get the mount for your year, you should be fine. (Or easily fixed)
I also "think" 92 was the year they changed the pilot bearing diameter. So you should be fine there.
So it should just pop right in.
(nothing was quite right with my buddies in a 90 YJ, poorly mounted.)

Yea, according to google:
1988 to 1991 AX15 input shafts have a smaller (~19/32") pilot tip. 1992-1999 AX15's have a larger (~3/4") pilot tip.

should be good.

i thought they used BA trannys until 91..guess not..wonder if the clutch, pressure plate, clutch master and flywheel will work too

It was my understanding that the BA tranny's were phased out mid 89?

HELP!

I did a swap from a 98 tj into a 89 yj. The only thing I had to do is pull out the pilot bearing and wear sleeve in the crank and find a pilot bushing with the outside diameter of the crank and inside of .751in. I am not positive on this but I think the transmission that you are going to install has a .751 pilot shaft and the one that is in your yj is 17/32" I read above and they said that it was changed in 92 and I think this may be right because the transmission that I pulled out was a 91 so if the input shafts are right then you should be able to change pilot bearing with a new one and the only other thing is the transfer case adapter needs modified a little bit due to different castings. My dampener and mounting bolts from transmission to crossmember didnt quite line up perfect but you can make it work pretty easily. Hope this helps and if anyone has anything I am missing feel free to enlighten me, I am newer to this but have some experience.
