Will it fit?

To many pics of cats in that thread!
lol I couldn't get the pics to load. I'm on break at work, and apparently the firewall (or IT gods) won't let a bunch of stuff load up. I'll have to check that out at home.

Yes it will bolt in.
But...YJ AX5 and AX15 extension housings are drilled differently from TJ. Same pattern, but clocked to accommodate the HP front diffs in the YJ (and XJ too).
It's not a ton, but may be enough to notice depending on your skid plate clearance.

Is this where the template is needed you spoke of @Buddy_Holly

The TJ and YJ have the same clocking angles on the tail housing. The XJ is clocked down (counter clockwise) about 10 degrees from the YJ and TJ. The ax5 that I ran in my YJ came out of a 97 TJ- no difference in fitment, it installed like the original trans. The bell housing should be the same, the only difference might be the crank sensor mounting boss, not sure when (or if) they went to the newer style crank sensor with one mounting ear instead of two- I think that was changed when the 4.0 went to COP ignition, not sure if the 2.5 ever got it. Worst case you can swap the bell off your 95, the trans case is identical. They are both external slave transmissions and use the same clutch, clutch fork, throwout bearing, etc.

Next Venture Motorsports makes the clocking jig I mentioned when we spoke earlier. Bolt it to the tail housing, drill the pilot holes and then you can drill it to the correct size. Allows you to clock the case up or down 10 degrees. With the TJ trans in your YJ it won't be necessary but if you ended up with the one I have from the Cheroskeet, it will be needed. Linky:

Xj were always 2 bolt cps. Zj were 1 bolt unless aw4 equipped. Not sure on the the, yj were always 2 bolt on manual. You can swap the 2 bolt sensor for 1 bolt electrically, as long as the sensor location (clocking) if the same, as the tone rings are the same. Sensor gas power, signal and ground. If needed to swap over, I'd get the harness connector to match it.

What should I offer this guy for the trans? He wants me to sell it and buy it at the same time. Here's a little over an hour away. $150? Is that fair?

Ax5 fits a 4 cylinder. Ax15 is the 6 cylinder omanual. I'd say offer as little as he'll take. www.car-part.com for a comparison. Can make a template out of paper/paper board/cereal box/carton box/beer box and transfer punch centers for drilling.

$150 sounds fair if its complete and working properly. I'd throw $100 at him just to see what he says.
