First the new Automatic Jeep's roll away. Today Government wants all Fiat/Chrysler autos recalled. Thousands of Electric Rotary knob shifters, are Failing! Here's the Fix>"Buyers Products WC24483 Wheel Chock". I couldn't get the picture up, maybe someone's Wizard can.

This is the same problem as the standard computer keyboard. The current set up has been proven slower than other configurations but the world is accustomed to it. Leave the damn shifter on the column or the floor with a mechanical connection. And give me a throttle cable too!

But then the car can't obey the cell/satellite command to slow and pull over! Oh, let me guess, you want a real steering shaft too? And physical connection between the brake pedal and brakes?

Lol, no, I won't trade my xj out on one

I got that damn volume knob shifter on my Ram, $1500 "option" that you can't opt out of unless you special order cause they put it on all of them. I dislike it very much. But it doesn't ruin the truck as a whole thankfully.

Yea, the truck was ruined when they put the RAM emblem on it:flipoff2:

It doesn't really matter what you make the transmission switch look like, whether it's a knob or a lever on the floor. Just make the transmission control work properly.

A large amount of cars now (not necessarily trucks/SUVs) have no mechanical connection to the trans anymore, just a floor lever (or whatever) that actuates a PRINDL switch.

So the problem is not shift-by-wire, because there's already millions of cars from other brands that are working just fine. Like pretty much every automatic BMW and Mercedes, and every soul-sucking Prius out there.

This is why I don't own Chrysler products.

I was driving my wifes 4runner down the road last week, thinking about the lack of a proper e-brake. It has a left footwell brake like many things these days. In the event of me having a heart attack/stroke/nap/etc while driving, the wife and kiddo are in for the ride until some type of outside force stops the vehicle. Putting it in park is useless, and cutting off the ignition won't do much good either with an auto trans. Back in the good ole days, she could have grabbed the ebrake and steering wheel and had some level of (awkward) control.

Your gonna have to get a ps brake pedal like the paper man has.

So just for discussion, because I haven't driven one of the amazing Chryler products affected by the bad dash switch design:

Is the parking brake a park-by-wire system? If it is, this should be a simple controller software change to engage the parking brake automatically with the vehicle in park.

I would say that you and I think about very different things while driving.

I was actually thinking about it because my elderly dad was in the passenger seat and fell asleep, so I reversed the roles in my head. In her 4runner, I'm usually just thinking about how much I dislike auto transmissions and electronic throttles while watching out for all the crazy bastards on the road with cell phones.

Or automatically set the trans and parking brake when the ignition is turned off. A bypass could be added to unlock during service when there is no battery.
