Just wanted to ask what are youre experiences with changing over to synthetic rope from cable. The drum on my 9000i is far from smooth, It has been well used, it is not burred but is far from smooth. I of course will be changing to a hawse fairlead. What do yall think about just sanding the drum to smooth it up a little bit, or should I even worry about it.

I also plan on sanding the snatch block I have also.

I bought 100ft of 3/8". I could fit more on the drum, but I'm cheap.

As for your drum, if it's got any burrs on it, you could knock them down with emory cloth, maybe put a coat of paint on it. The biggest issue is if you have any burrs on the sides of the spool. Clean those up enough that they won't snag your finger and call it good. Put some load on the cable as you wind it the first time and you'll never have to worry about that bottom wrap moving. That is, unless BigGoofy unspools your entire line and runs it in backwards. Then maybe.

I didn't think about paint, good idea.

I'm lazy at times so I'd prob knock the burrs off with a higher grit flap wheel. The coat of paint is a good idea, gonna have to try that as well.
