I bought an 8274-50 winch a while back. I think it's got a motor issue. Doesn't seem to pull too good. To be honest, it doesn't seem able to pull a greasy string out of a cats butt!
Not sure if this is what I need, never had my winch apart. ANyone know if this will work? Looks like a good price.

thats it . kinda comon on 8274 people think they will pull 8000# when its more like 6000# so they burn up motor before u spend a bunch of $ take the motor to a good starter repair shop they may be able to repair it . pm me if u need help with it

I put a 6 hp motor on mine. It really improved it. Cost about $300.00

Whatever you do, buy from DB. They are awesome to deal with. I bought my 12V motor from them for my 24V hummer winch and they had a wonderful price and service. Rob is the tech guy for the winch motors and can help you out with different/optional upgrades/higher HP motors for your winch

That's the biggest crock of shit i've ever heard. No nicer way to put it. An 8274 with a good electrical system behind it will pull like crazy.

I agree with Rich, we have had one mounted on the front of a rig for 10+ years that i know i have overworked many many times....one of the best winches on the market hands down (if you have the room to mount it that is)

I've heard of folks taking the motor off (I believe) the 9.5ti or something similar and replacing their 8274 motors with that. Supposedly it doubles the line speed! I can't imagine where you'd need 150ft of no-load speed, that sounds like some missing fingers waiting to happen, but they do it. The write-up I saw was over on Pirate.

For your app, the DB should be fine. I've never dealt with them, but they've got loads of good tech on the site, and I've never heard a bad review of them.

I've never bought a winch motor from DB, but my starter came from them and I would give them the highest recommendation. I bought a starter for my Bronco from them in an eBay auction and had it sitting on my doorstep here in Charlotte less than 36 hours later. I was shocked to get it that fast! Top notch quality and customer service! My 8274 is in need of a new motor and solenoids, and you can be damn sure that is where I'm going to buy them from.

Thanks everyone. The only reason I bought an 8274-50 was because of how well I had seen them work over the years. Mine had issues pulling my lame Jeep up ramps onto a trailer. It even had issues pulling the Jeep up on a lift in a shop. I had three fully charged red tops, so I know power wasn't an issue!
If, after replacing the motor it don't stand up to my expectations, I will put another 10 or 12K warn on it.

Chip,
If it doesn't live up to your expectations let me know and I'll take it off your hands!!
I have over worked mine many times and it will not quit!! When I bought it it was in a 5 gallon bucket in pieces.

Yup, that big fella should not be anything but amazing when working properly. I love mine enough to put up with the weight.

Chip,
If you needin' more power, here you go...

or this one

As far as the 8274...I have a couple and they're great especially for a jeep sized rig...fast and pull like the dickens...no twin engine dragsters yet though...

While both of those seem ultrakewl!, I doubt I would drop that kinda coin on an upgrade. The 10,000 I had on there pulled me, and a Zuk tied to me up and out of a muddy mess and up a 4' ledge down at Gulches, that swallowed my 44's! with no help from my engine. Just a dead pull. So if I change, I will go back with something like that.
