Windshield washer fluid, summer blend

Are y'all using the spray wax option or something like that at the drive-through car wash? There's got to be some kind of reaction going on. We use the rain-x stuff in all our vehicles, and have never had a problem. Windshield gets cleaned inside and out periodically with CRL. The only fogging/streaking problems I've ever had were immediately after getting new glass installed. It took a couple of times of cleaning inside and out to get whatever it was off the glass. Something left over from manufacturing or shipping, most likely.

I bought a jug and put some in my wife's xB. First squirt left it almost undriveable if you were heading into the sun. There was no good way to get it out, so I had to cut the line where it ran under the fender, attach an extension, and run the washer motor until it ran itself out into a bottle. I trashed the rest and won't go back. She has good wipers for when it rains. They work. I don't want something in her car that is that easy to screw up. If she's out somewhere and just grabs a bottle of whatever to fill it up, I don't want her to have to deal with the dangerous streaks. KISS theory.

CLEAN the glass well before first application and also replace the wipers. most people don't ever wipe the wiper edge of when they do clean the glass and thats were a lot of the goo and crud collects, add a solvent to it, SMEAR now it's all over the glass again.

THE BEST way to clean windshield ( and this is commonly used by auto detailers ) use 0000 ultra fine steel wool and a good soapy glass cleaner. the soapy glass cleaner acts as a lubricant, the steel wool will cut the crud off the glass and NOT scratch it. I've done this to all my vehicles, it's time to do it again, as the bug guts are not coming off as easy as they did.

also, when using RainX stay with the winter blend all year, I got caught with summer blend last winter and it took about 50 miles of driving in freezing temps for it to thaw enough to use. fortunately it wasn't in the upper states where we were heading at the time, it would have never thawed.

There's never any reason to use anything but standard (winter, if you're inclined to make the distinction..?) washer fluid year round. Changing fluids doesn't gain you anything except buying slightly cheaper fluid (the brilliantly marketed summer fluid). If you're using enough fluid that the price matters, I'm sorry about your life situation, and why are you using that much wiper fluid?

You don't change your coolant every season just because you don't need freeze protection in the summer...

if the blue did what Rain X does, id never have changed. the winter/summer blend is dumb really, but oh, look, pretty orange and green for the season....

one thing to keep in mind, RainX is a sort of oil/polymer that coats your windshield, it DOES collect dust and will cause vision issue if used while facing low sun, hasn't stopped me from using it, I love the stuff, its great in light drizzle conditions where even intermittent wipers get really annoying

I haven't bought the blue normal stuff in years.

Some deep thinkers on here, never gave it much thought, just look past the dirt and bugs and motor on. Maybe this is why I keep running into stuff? o_O:driver:

I'm pretty sure you're onto something about the cost savings due to summer formula...but that is not seen by the consumer. Wife said all Walmart had was the summer formula and then the expensive RainX type stuff. I haven't been following windshield washer fluid price trends so I am not an expert, but I do believe Walmart is pocketing the savings by diluting the blue stuff and calling it summer formula. I hear they're good at forcing suppliers to provide cheaper products.

I think they're just leaving out the more expensive ingredients that aren't necessary in the summer. It's mostly water anyway.

Walmart is well known for forcing suppliers to do all kinds of things, like move their manufacturing to China or else lose a contract renewal because they can't lower prices enough. They're a giant bully from what I understand. If you start researching that topic, you'll never shop at Walmart again, and will start to blame yourself (through your actions as a consumer) for the manufacturing of almost everything moving to China, etc. With Walmart, ignorance is bliss.

I buy the cheap knock off rainx at advance. (I'm biased, I'm in advance every day, and not because I work there) Works fine but cleaning wipers is good practice. I need to clean mine.

We buy by the 55 gallon drum and mix accordingly. Nah it stays dark blue year round.
