I'm trying to wrap my brain around this. I can't get highspeed where I live. I currently have satellite at $80 a month that works pretty good and I get email and webspace that I need.
My wife got a wireless card because some of the things she does when she telecommutes don't work with the satellite. I want to get rid of the satellite and stay with the wireless but I need email and web space to host pics and at least one simple webpage. I don't really need an ISP if I have the card right? Wonder if I can get a domain package for $20 a year that would include email and web space and skip the ISP? I prefer email and web space with no ads. Anybody else dealing with the same issues?

The cell phone company you pay for use of the card is your ISP

There are several out there. Some are free.

lets slow down a minute.

start here. http://www.netlingo.com/dictionary/all.php

make sure the words you are typing match the definition you think you are using.

Dont take offense, im not calling you dumb. Just making sure we all know what you mean so you can get the best help.

Kinda like someone coming on here and asking whats the biggest WHEEL he can fit on his jeep. if we dont understand that he mean TIRE he is going to get what seems like screwed up answers.

let's tackle the issues that are clear.

Email, hotmail, gmail, excite, aol, there are numerous companys out there to get email accounts from. Mostly free.

Websapce: you dont need your ISP for your webspace. you can log into godaddy.com (and several others for that matter) and create your own webspace (and email account) to host your pictures and files on.

Did your wfie get a wireless network adapter, or an aircard from a cell phone company? if it is an aircard you can lose your satellite ISP and keep the cell phone ISP. Of course with the air card, you will be down to one computer unless you set up a network share on the laptop with the air card. but then both computers would have to be turned on and connected to each other for the PC without the aircard to work.

the newest generation of smarts have wifi broadcast capability.

For example, my mothers "logs on" to the internet through her blackberry and then the blackberry broadcasts the connection via Wi-Fi to up to 6 devices...it essentially has a built in wireless router in it.

heh, thats pretty cool. so she can route her laptop through her phone to access the internet?

I'm really surprised the cell companies would go for this. They're already having big problems w/ the broadband access taking up a huge chunk of their available bandwidth, clogging it. This kidn of availability would really encourage folks to use it even more, at only higher operational cost to them.

Plus (for teh case on hand) you have to consider teh practicality of this approach. While cool, esp on the road, you're limited to the "family" having access only when the phone is around. E.g., you take teh phone with you to teh store, wife is at home and loses her connection.
Plus even the fastest 3G etc speeds are nowhere near what you can get via cable or phone line DSL. Of course in this situation it soudns like those aren't options...

if you know the way of the force. lol. yes, i use the HTC fuze and the nokia phones like the e75, n97 and n95. it allows me to use them for voip, share my 3g, use the device as a bluetooth hub for printers, make my neighbor's printer print things, etc.

with the voip i can call relatives and friends in canada, the uk and the philippines. all for free!
