Anybody have any experience with wireless dog fence systems? I need to get something to the pup from crossing the road and into the neighbors yard.

I used one at our old house with no fence. Did the wireless one that just has a base in the house and sends out the signal from there (so basically in a circle from the base). Seemed to have no issue going through walls. Nice thing is you can take it travelling too. Petsafe Stay & Play was the model.
We have a fence at this place. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in it.

I've been using one for about 3 months now. Two of my dogs are perfect with it and one is stubborn. He likes to run through it at times. I like it so far over my old chain link yard. Using xtreme dog fence.

From what I have seen the invisible dog fences are very hit or miss.
It is very dependent on your dog.
The one I had never worked for my previous dog, he went right through it.
And my buddies dog learned to lay near the boarder, untill the beeping ran the battery down in the collar. He would then walk through it.

My parents have used one for about 20 years or so. How well they work depends on how well you maintain it and how stubborn your dog is.

Most system will tell you when there is a fault in the wire, either by a light or alarm. Need to make sure batteries in the collar are good.

The fence worked great for our golden retriever and our Chesapeake bay retriever, but the damn red bone coon hound didn't care how much we turned it up; if he caught a scent he was gone. Then he learned how to get into the dumpsters at Whole Foods :shaking:. If he managed to get back to the house without being caught he wouldn't have the drive to get back through the fence so he would just pace the house and bay as loud as he could.

Not trying to be an ass and just pointing to a link, but I remember this being brought up this past summer.

No problem....thanks for the link. I must have been busy the week of that thread......

For sure! I started to reply then was like "wait, this sounds familiar". FWIW, I've had success w/ the PetSafe Stubborn Dog but would upgrade to a larger wire if I did it again.

We've had Dog Watch in 2 locations with great results. Typically not a flat install price (like PetSafe, Invisible Fence), but priced based on the the amount of wire actually used.

Currently, they have about a 3 acre run (based on the installers estimate of wire used around the perimeter via subsoil trencher).
1 dog (RIP) wouldn't get near it from just the beeping... the other required "a higher level adjusted on the collar" and stays put now.
They WILL require training... basically flagging (visual)/audio (beeping) walking the perimeter to get oriented. After that, it's adjusting the level to their level of stubbornness. :D

ZERO crap to mow/weedeat around, keeps them ON our property (there's 1000's of acres of nothing surrounding us, so could run for days) and still plenty of room to run away from predators (yotes & bear)... though they will sit at the perimeter and bark at the deer, who understand where the dogs will stop.

Another tip... the collars the receivers are attached to are the crappy plastic buckle type. Our dogs would "play" and they would unlatch and fall off... *NOT* worth the $35-50 each. I bought HD nylon "belt-buckle" style collars for <$10/ea, melted holes for the receiver tips (a .380 case & propane torch), and that issue was resolved.

Outdoor dog supply.com has about 30 different collars for underground fences. We just ordered some new nylon coated ones with reflector strips. For 8 dollars for 3/4” think and 10 for 1” thick

Yes, I started using wireless fence only recently and I wish I had done it earlier! I got petsafe and it is a savior! If you are considering buying a wireless fence (which I think you should!) then here is a guide that will help you to see the differences between some of the options Best Wireless Invisible Dog Fence System (Jan. 2019)

So you work for petsafe? Joined a 4wheeling forum on the other side of the country to comment about a dog fence.

you ran them off before I could tell them I picked up a pet safe wireless from @TARider!! It seems to be working well. I did hear her run through it yesterday to go play with the neighbors dog so I turned up the correction level. They recommend 14 day training with 3 15 minutes sessions a day.....i think I got 3 in total. She knows where it's at and that it bites.....

I really wanted a wireless for the ease of use but my lot is so small if I had it turned down where they couldn’t get in the road they couldn’t get in the back yard
