i was installing a new head unit in my jeep today didnt think it would be a big deal and it wasnt until i got all done and got out of the jeep and realized the running lights were on. i figured out the the problem was coming from the head unit alimentation wire (i ran it and the power wire together and in to the head unit wiring set up) i used one of those easy wiring harness from walmart the ones that hook to the stock wiring then you splice it to the head unit wiring harness.

Sounds like you've got the 12v+ from the battery backfeeding into the headlight switch. What did you connect the dimmer wire to?
at first nothing to the dimmer wire. i looked at it again and saw a ground wire that wasnt in the stock harness but it was connected to the old head unit, i added that wire to the grounds and the running lights went off.... as well as the display lights on the head unit. i turned running lights on and head unit lit up. disconnected the alimentation wire and hooked up the dimmer wire it worked except it burned the fuse up in about five seconds....

Leave the orange wires disconnected and capped. Dimmers are overrated anyway. Just go red to red, yellow to yellow, and black to that loose ground you found in the dash. Chryslers don't include the ground in the harness for some reason. Connecting the dimmer or orange wire to any power wire may cause problems. They don't need to be connected to anything. All it does is tell the head unit that the lights are on, and to dim the display a little.
