So my 3.0 is getting ready to die and I’ve decided to go with the Tdi vw route. I know John Smith on here is doing the same in a 4 runner. Question is, would it be worth it to buy a stand alone harness or tackle the wiring myself. I’ve contacted a few places that will make the harness but, just wondering how complicated it really is and if it’s worth it?

I've been dreaming of my little 2.0 Dirty Diesel in my Jetta swapped into an MJ but dont know the first thing about how to make it happen..... Interested in what you find out.

The wiring is what I’m hung up on... do it myself an keep the money or have a harness made...

I've spent a weekend making a bunch of brackets I could have purchased for less than I had in it. After that I've got a different way of deciding if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Unless you enjoy reading wiring diagrams, I say buy the harness and spend your time elsewhere.

I say, do it yourself and document it very carefully here in painstaking detail. That way I can do it easily someday myself ;-).

In all seriousness, unless money is a major factor and you have lots of time to burn, just pay a guy and move on.
