Wiring up Aux. Fuse box...questions.

So Im going to wire up an Aux. fuse box. Question, do I need an inline fuse on the battery-fuse box connection? I am using 6 gauge wire for that connection.

Is running all my grounds to a terminal and then running the terminal to one ground okay?

Thanks!

i would run some kind of fusable link in the primary wire if you arnt planning on putting one inline with the accesory. just my .02 you can have just one ground if its the same size or one gauge larger than your power wire.

I'm no wiring expert, but I wouldn't run a fuse on the line from the battery to the fuse box. I guess you could, but that would be overkill, IMO. The fuses in the fuse box will protect anything down the line of the fuse box

Thats what I was thinking, but everything Ive read says to put one. Doesnt really seem right to me, and finding an inline holder to hold a 60 amp Fuse is proving difficult besides using the net.

I'll be using the same 6 gauge wire as the main ground, if I can figure out how to attach it to the terminal. Can I unstrand the wire and split it half and half on two different terminals?

Go to an electrical store and get the correct end you want ans have them crimp it. I think that hammer crimp tool is 50 bucks!

Hm, so a standard crimp from a hand tool wont do it?

Any answers about splitting the 6 gauge stranded in half and using that at 2 terminal spots?

I don't recommend you that you split it. Thats a crappy wiring practice. If you go to the electric supply place and get the right end, I can crimp it for you. As a matter of fact if you have not bought the cable, I can give you that, free. but, you will need to come get some of mine and get the right ends. I forget what color (size) it needs. But I have plenty of the cable.

I do recommend something in line from the battery to the new fuse block, I think a circuit breaker or fuse would be fine. You can get the fuses at any audio system place.

already bought the wire...12 feet of 6 gauge, 20 of 10.

Problem with the terminal deal is, it needs a ring connector but the ring connectors for a 6 gauge wire are hard to fine and too big to fit on the terminal strip.

I put one in my YJ. I bought the fuse block thing from AutoZone that holds 6 fuses. It has 4 mounting holes and then a threaded stud to attach the power wire. Run some heavy gauge wire from that to the battery, no inline fuse needed. Then run all your accessories to it and pop a fuse in.

yeah, but I already bought the 6ga, and with electrical stuff, for me its better safe than sorry really, so I went with what I thought was appropriate overkill.

I may be chiming in a bit late but Id never run 6g over 2ft without putting a breaker or somekind of fused link within 6 inches of the battery. 6g can burn your car or your battery down before it ever burns in half. Breakers are cheap and you can prob get one from radioshack

Good advice there. Fuses/breakers at the battery for the win.

These are a real headache saver, fwiw.
60amps is a lot of power for whatever you're doing, but you would want to use a circuit breaker for that.
What are you going to run off of it? You'd probably be able to get away with much smaller and easier to use than 6ga.
X2. Put one in my Jeep and installation was a breeze. Have plenty of fuses for whatever I may add.
