WJ ignition

So they ignition on my dad's 99 wj has started acting up. When you put the key in it will act as though the wheel is locked when it isn't. Steering wheel turns and stuff, but the key won't turn. Usually it'll take a good 5 minutes of sweet talking and promising to by it jewerly before it'll allow the key to turn and start. :confused:

Any ideas? Trying not to go to the stealership or replace the ignition.
 
sounds like the pins are not lining up.. does it do it with just that key or all keys?
 
I was going to say the same. That, or you somehow got a bunch of crud in the ignition itself and the key is maybe not "bottoming out."

Check out another key first.
