The tweeters in the dash of the wifey's 02 WJ have started buzzing pretty bad. I checked Crutchfield thinking they have everything. But they say those tweeters are not a standard size, either buy them from the stealership or call Crutchfield and use custom mounting.

Just wondering if anyone else has replaced these. I don't want to make it look like :poop:

Def replace them with the oem. They are a 2.5" Midrange. If you replace them with tweeters it will sound like dog turd. The infiniti systems in these rides use the doormounts as a midbass...sub. and the dash as the midrange tweet. If you go with a tweeter it will have no vocals. I get them at the dodge dealership for about 45-50 a piece. You can add a bass blocker to them to get them to last longer or just slide the bass control knob down.

oem blows. get some aftermarket stuff and the bracket. sounds way better! i replaced mine with aftermarket infinity tweeters and put on the bass blockers. loved it. the main reason those things wear out on every damn WJ is cuz they are paper crap and in the dash soaking up all the sun. the procedure is easy and painless. you can get all kinds of decent tweeters from a car audio place 45-50 bucks a pair.

Did you guys not notice a difference in sound? These are not tweets. They are midrange and the sound will suffer. If you put a cap or bass block on the oem they will last. I run a car audio shop and i keep the mopar replacements in stock for these. I also have lots of tweeters and i will not use them for replacements cause it sounds like turds. Just my expereinced 2 cents.

Damn you sound like a guy that does car audio for a living! :flipoff2:

I think i sell them for 50 or 55 a piece. I really dont know of an aftermarket 2.5" speaker out there. You may can do some trimming of the subdash and fit a 3.5" aftermarket in its place though. You can ck with the dealership and see what they quote you. If its too high send me a pm. Ill get you a set.

To the OP, do you have the standard speaker system or the factory upgraded Infinity system? If you have the infinity system, the dash speakers are tweeters, the front doors 6x9 woofers, and the rear doors 6.5 full range. That's what I have, and I replaced the speakers with some WJ JL Audio SE-40T tweeters about 5 years ago. I like a variety of music and listen to rock, rap and country (all pretty loud ;)). The setup sounds GREAT! However, I've been doing some digging and it looks like they discontinued the JL's :(

I finally found the page I was looking for! http://www.wjjeeps.com/jlaudio.htm#TWEETERS

This thread on JU has a ton of great info to help you out: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666865

I think I have the upgraded system...their is an external amp, although there is not a CD changer. Thanks for the links!!

oh well? Try some tweets, youll see what im talkin about.

I have the same system in my WJ (upgraded Infinity system)... DO NOT BUY the tweeters.. You can easily mount 3.5's in there w/ minimal use of the drimel tool.... Search JU there's plenty of write ups...

I did this and it sounds about 1,000,000 times better than before... I replaced them w/ JL's I believe...

agreeed!!!

I am definitely looking for the mid-ranges. While we are not audiophiles, if I make it worse, my wife will definitely not be happy. I got the dimensions of the area from wjjeeps.com and will see what some 3.5s will do.
