What's good, what sucks?

I had a couple of pair of the old MechanixWear gloves... one of the "normal" kind, and one of the "MPact" kind, both were quite old, but recently gave up the ghost.

Read some reviews on Amazon, and unfortunately, everybody that cared enough to write a review only did so because they felt they'd been ripped off. Not really useful.

So.... like I said, what's good, what sucks?

I wait for a coupon and buy the blue western safety ones at harbor freight. Can usually get them for about $3.50/pair and they last much longer than the mechanix variety.

Wife bought me a nice pair of craftsman work gloves for Christmas. I've never been a glove person (2 kids to prove it!) but decided to give them a shot. No joke I wore them out in one day of laying floors. Guess that says something for rough hands!

Yes but they don't look as cool.

Definitely depends on what you're doing. Mechanix makes 50 styles of gloves, the regular style does suck but they make better versions. Leather gloves are usually where it's at if you want them to last but not for anything requiring a lot of dexterity. Burton makes some nice mitts for skiing/snowboarding. The hobart brand tig gloves are junk. The HF 3 pack of welding gloves are good for letting friends use but not if you hold anything hot. I'll take (good) nitrile gloves over latex any day.

I like the goat skin leather gloves from the welding supply house...

For wrenching in the cold I like the Craftsman framer gloves that have a couple finger tips cut off already. Easier to grab small bolts and the likes. For working outside on the farm or on the work days I like Carhart gloves. They last a good amount of time.

I got some Carhart gloves at Academy sports and they are great. They fit comfortably, they are made well, and last a long time. They're $15.00 but so much better than the $5 junk you get at Lowes or discount stores.
But these are work gloves, not mechanics gloves...

Harbor Freight work just as well as the higher priced Mechanix gloves. I don't feel bad when they wear out because I can throw away and buy two more pair. HF usually has them on sale plus I wait for the coupons.

I totally agree with this, I also get mine from Harbor Freight, the price is half the price of most others and the quality is as good if not better...you can't go wrong

I wear the "retired" cut resistant gloves from my work. We retire them when they get too dirty, but thats when they are about ready for jeep work. They have a rubber coating that keeps grease/oil off my palms pretty well, and offer very good dexterity for the level of protection. They are not well insulated, but in my opinion, they exceed in every other aspect.
Here's the product page:

And if that excessive long link doesn't work, they are the NFD16G. They are about $12/pair online.

In the winter i wear nitrile gloves with western saftey gloves over top or the knit latex dipped gloves. My hands stay pretty warm
