I'm building an outdoor kitchen, I think I can put a torpedo keg and tap system in for under $200 including fridge/freezer maybe more but not much more. (Mamy parts are free to me) Honestly I dont drink that much beer and we only entertain 4-5 times a year with more than 8 people. Just wondering if it would be worth it and how much work is it to maintain. Might do more entertaining with the new kitchen though.
Looking for people that have them and how much they actually use them or don't.

I've converted an old fridge in the garage to a 2 tap kegerator. They aren't that bad to maintain. Just gotta keep beer line cleaner through the lines after use if its gonna see a lot of time between uses. Oh, and CO but it's cheap. Otherwise, no issues.

Got a good friend that works for a beer distributor and he ran the numbers when we were going to get some kegs for a weekend at the lake and for stuff like regular old American light, as long as the case prices were $17.99 a case and below, it was cheaper per beer to buy the cases. I'd just put in a big enough fridge/freezer to accommodate a reasonable amount of beer when you do entertain. If you need more, put that bitch in a trash can like a real American.

Kinda what I was thinking, I am getting all building materials and hardware for free, just have to buy the dorm freezer and some doors to access it, build a "cooler"out of ridged foam, then install it.

Would it be worth putting in a fullsize fridge/freezer that could pull double duty?

It is just going to be an "L" with two 10' legs counter height, no room for a full size fridge. plan is if I do it everything will be concealed under counter except tap handles.

I'd tap that.
Started framing it yesterday, hope to sheath it today.

I got a good dorm size fridge - not peltier unit, but actually refrigeration unit. I'll check with the wife if she's got any plans for it. It never had any problems keeping everything cold in my uninsulated shop that gets to well over 110 in the day time.
